1971 VW front suspension lowered from 4" to 2-1/2"

In this video I share with you how I lowered my 1971 super beetle. I did the mod by cutting my tangential spring. Tangential springs are the only springs you can cut using a grinder and a cutting wheel. There are multiple methods to lower a car. I opted this method because I had an extra set of struts from another car. If you ever entertain the idea to lower your car make sure you do you own research first. Always be save. Thanks for your feedback. There are other alternatives. This is just the least expensive if you are in a budget. If you entertain this method make sure you assess all your options before doing it this way. I will share with the Vw community my experience with this method and any other I try in the near future. Super Beetles are not liked by some but especially in Europe their front suspensions are souped up; they are lowered and turned into Autobahn cruisers by putting in healthy drivetrains like Porsche and Subaru and they make them look killer. Another way of dropping the car without affecting the ride is by using drop spindles. Love the color of your car. The stance is nice now.

Yeah the drop spindle only works on the standard beetle. The are so much easier to lower and less mechanical work to make the modifications. With the super beetle even front coil over won’t lower your car as much. Usually don’t like to cut the spring coil on any cars, but I know that tangential coil can be cut, although I personally don’t recommend it. But it was my alternative last option this time. I am thinking about trying other method in the near future. I will share with the Vw community my current experience about the process I used now and any other I try in the near future. Since you cut the springs and have been riding on them for a time now, has there been any negative issue found since doing so? I am considering this for my 72 Super.

The car has been performing well since I completed the lowering cutting the spring.
