I have a 1974 25 hp electric start Evinrude, would start, but only run for a couple of minutes and bog down,,, new fuel pump and carb rebuild,, seems to have solved the problem,,,really enjoy watching your videos,,, I am not a mechanic at all,, but I do feel I am learning from watching you,,,, thank you

Hey another great video. Just to expand your knowledge base my 71 and 72 Johnson 50hp service manuals both call for sealer 1000 on the bottom edge of the impeller plate. 1000 is basically Permatex aviation form a gasket.

Thank you for informative videos. I recently bought a 76 evinrude 20hp (European market) which seems quite similiar to this engine. Problem I have is the armature plate has horisontal play so the engine misfires and I have hit marks on flywheel and 1 coil end. Is there anything else that center the armature plate apart from the brass fitting in the middle of plate? Would be very gratefull if you had time to answer since I seem to struggle finding information/understanding the structure. Thanks!

As usual, you make it look easy. I was wondering if you think back about the 15 Johnson where you cut the transom down on your boat because it would quit pumping water at high speed. Now, I've seen where these old motors sometimes you needed to put some sealer on the impeller housing because they would lose their seal at high speeds and cause them to quit pumping. I know it's a little late in the game coach but I was taught to ask questions when you needed to. Oviously regarding the sealer you found

Minute you start the motor up the grease doesn’t last on the impeller and if it could stay it would break drown the rubber.

Is there a way to add a rectifier charging system to the motor to keep the battery charged,I have a 1972 25hp Johnson I have all the parts to convert to electric start,just seeing if u can

one of the wires ya shortened had a small crack in it ? shrink tape it ? good luck :)
