A bonus too with a long video and country talent coming from Florida baby👍Anyway I told you to check the plug wires being easy but what I didn't know is they come from under the flywheel anyway where everything else is. I blame my first experience of getting the awesome feeling from fixing something causing me to be so happy that I want to sing and do a happy dance for causing many decades of tinkering and wrenching on anything that has parts that can come apart, be replaced, repaired and reassembled and I feel very lucky I got addicted to that feeling early in life, because I get to feel the joy (and frustration) almost every day, much of which comes simply from actually doing something. It's human nature to seek that type of joy, but it seems most people don't succeed because they turn up their nose at the thought of any type of mechanical or physical work and instead seek joy from sources that cause tears. Your singing sucks really really really bad, but I got a big kick out of that part of the video because I sing even worse, but I know the feeling very well. I like learning, but can only imagine the joy you get from teaching so many hungry to learn people things that you enjoy and obviously learned mostly by actually doing and I thank you for showing you being you and hope your singing causes "spark" and inspiration for some youngsters viewing out of desperation that there's so very much more to it than just fixing a problem. btw: something about KZbin that sucks is it seems to me that many (if not most) KZbin videos are posted by people that learn(?) from watching KZbin videos and then feel the need to post a video trying to teach what they learned by watching the gazillion KZbin videos already posted on the topic. Consider yourself lucky you live far from my singing. hahaha.

Yes it takes something special to tear something apart and fix it. Not everybody can do it and feel the experience you described. I think it's in our genes! I've never really knew my biological father, but I'm him. He could fix anything! As far as my videos go, I didn't want to be that "How To" guy. I think there's enough of those out there. I just want to show what we all go through. The Real Life Saga! And somehow along the way I've managed to help a lot of people out. It's incredible the amount of comments I get thanking me. Nicely done! I have a 1974 Johnson 25 hp that I will give the once over this winter. I bought it cheap, pig at a poke, so I have no idea what I will find. Your videos however are a tremendous resource. Thank you for that. Once complete, the engine will be mounted on a Hal Kelly Wetback hydroplane that is curently undergoing restoration. The intention is not to race the boat, but simply get it going fast enough to scare myself. I realise that if I want speed, the Johnson is not the best choice, but I'd like to wring all the performance out of it possible. That starts with being familiar with the motor. And that's where your videos come in. Once again, well done, and many thanks!

Got a question for you old buddy.How do you sync and link a yr 2000 two cylinder 25hp Johnson?I can't get the carb flap and the two marks on the flywheel to line up.The engine runs and reaches full WOT,but the roller is not even touching the fywheel.What do I need to adjust? (Throttle cable,carb linkages ?) I'm in Manchester UK.

Hey Stan. Thanks for tuning in. I did a series of videos on a 2000 25 Johnson, worse case of outboard abuse I've ever seen but she's still running strong. Your best bet is to pickup an omc service manual specific to the year/model instead of me trying to type one out here in the comments section. That's a lot of typing man! Hahaa. That way you'll have the proper procedures and you'll know what the parts are called too! It will save you tons of time and there's also a great troubleshooting section in it. Try ebay for a good used manual, usually around $30. There are also websites where you can download the manual but I would try ebay first. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Hello TOO. I saw you talk about an d outboard that would POP! When turning and how to fixing by make a adjustment so it Wouldn’t hit the spring underneath and by the lower shaft. Can yo u point me in the right direction to see how to do that again please!

I doubt it! Hahaha your guess is as good as mine as to which video that was. But I can tell you how. Loosen the two rubber motor mounts on the sides under the pan. Be careful ! They break easy if they're corroded. Then, put a wedge between steering tube and the mid section somewhere at the top. I think I had to remove the spring. Then gently tap the wedge in just enough to push the mid section back, just so it clears the spring. Then tighten up the motor mounts to hold it in place. I think I had to do it a couple times before I got it right and the mounts were even on both sides. Take your time and don't forget, gently. Thanks for tuning in & Happy New Year!

Hey. Thanks. Yeah these motors are great. Yes it belongs to someone else. Would you believe I walked off and forgot my Rod. 24+ hours later I remembered and went to get it. It was still there and all the line was out. Straight out from the dock, and it was a lot of line, old Zebco XB65 . Well, I started reeling it in and there was something on. Just as I started to really feel it, he started pulling back and the line snapped about half spool. If I See my Bobber floating around you better believe I'll check it ! I'm running the same motor and because it's so work trying to figure out how to get the foot to stay up when I pull up on the bank or shallow areas. It's like it won't stay locked up.....or maybe that's not in the design.

there is modern electronic ignition systems available for guys with an old chevy V-8. does evinrude not offer a supersede ignition system for an old points and condenser outboard ?

I'm not aware of a system direct from OMC to convert these older motors, But there is a little electronic module that will replace the points and condenser set up and will utlize the original coil on the engine, I use them on other styles of small engines like lawnmowers, chainsaws and others with point and condenser set ups, It's called a Nova 2 electronic ignition module and can be found by just googling the name and is also available on Amazon for around $15 each, just remember you need one for each cylinder hope this helps.🙂

It's a long road to dual sparkdom. Excellent work, as always. That motor didn't miss a beat, and a smoothie. Choppy water? Here's a quarter... Too bad you hain't come across some swap-meet box o' plastic whale tails for smaller OBs; they make such a difference in quick on-planing and simplified tilt-hole setting (i.e., vertical) - plus probably adds a few MPH and stabilizes better. But you're doin' fine keepin' it original. Maybe you should paint that motor cover digital camo in black/drab. Get ya some builder's cloth with 1/4" square perfs and spray away! +$50 sales value, Ha!

in my experience if the motor is set just a hair too low, those fins slow me down a couple mph because of the drag

Ohm out the coil and make sure your primary wire is not grounded. Make sure your stop signal is not grounded unless you enable it.

THIS OLD OUTBOARD that’s fine with changing coils. What I was interested in saying, yes I do not trust resistance but will check voltage because voltage will not lied to you. Anytime you need a second pair of eyes I am five minutes away in Apopka. I have ability to measure both voltage and current out of the secondary plug wire

I think my 13 foot inflatable could do 40+ mph on glass with that motor. I still have it if interested. And way better cosmetic condition. Its basically for sale. I have a new Honda 4 stroke. Yep the silver unmovably heavy, handless, behemoth. But the honda blows out pure fresh air for exhaust and I can circumvent the globe on 10 gallons. 72 jhonson 25 is up for sale. All my damn Johnson’s run so much better than my evinrudes, which sucks because the evinrudes are the ones I like, they have such awesome styling compared to boring old Johnson’s.. do you find that scenario to be true as well? It’s literally like night and day difference. I have 6 motors right now, 3 are Johnson and 3 are evinrudes. Got a guy that wants to trade me a 1966 33 hp ski twin that needs a bit of work for my 1969 25 hp Johnson that runs like a top...I want the skitwin for my Barracuda, but do I want another project?
