In this video, I will be removing the drivers side rocker panel, replacing rusted metal on the inner rocker, and prepping it for the outer rocker panel install.

Had to do the same repair on my 71. Anxious to watch the next video and how you got the new rocker to line up.

My driver’s rocker on my ‘84 K20 is crusty on the outside. I hope the inside isn’t as bad once I get in there like you discovered. Really enjoying your Chevy truck vids man. Love your approach to things. 👍🏻👍🏻

It will probably be worse than you expect in my experience

You got sand in your hair? Lol. Looking good. I hope I don’t have to wait 10 years for this to be done. I like the tool tips on what you’re using. Sometimes I’m not sure of the right tool.

That outer rocker is the least of your problem . Floors , inner rocker box which are structural are rotten as well

Fulton's Garage, Thank's very much this Gentleman for Tutorial..- ..Lesson - genious.. simpel; I did look/watch and learn in case you worked. I've same problem with a Blazer Mil-M1009.. May I recommend for clean Job (Environment), *Blasting with - *Dry-Ice, - 'Instead Sand-Blasting with all dust problems. Dry-Ice Equipment/Assy are in small and large sizes for rent- or -purchase. I'll have to look at Dry-Ice, I assume a regular media blaster won't work with that?

Coming from cardiac surgery world, your restoration is really not so far, with what we're dealing on daily basis 😆. But in soft tissues, instead of metal. How's underside and "deeper" frame? Hopefully in good shape. Keep it up, great drive & resto!!! 👍

Those drain or "weep" holes are for when water gets in whether it be if the vehicle gets in deep water, or when it rains and it gets in between the panels. Keeping them clear isn't going to keep them from rusting out. You need to spray an oil base product inside the rocker panel on the inner sides. One autobody guy I know even pumps used motor oil inside his panels and they never rot out. That's the only way i've found to keep the rust at bay.

Thank you for the info. It seems that those drains could have been made a little bigger. The smallest amount of dirt will clog them up.

how do you get rid of the rust on the inside of the panels that are not being replaced? Seems like there would be rust in there also?
@fultonsgarage6331 Жыл бұрын
That would be tough to remove. I would suspect that it would have to be acid dipped to get rid of all of it. Then you have to somehow get in there with a protective coating. For the rust that can be seen, I have had good luck with a light sandblasting and spraying a 50/50 mixture of oil-based rustoleum and acetone.

Summit Racing, part number BAI-1006968. I have been pretty happy with it.
