I had small round door mirrors and hated them. I purchased the 5 X 7 and found they used an interior reinforcement plate. Test driving other people’s cars I learned years ago to bring the repair order, seat belt on and test brakes before getting off the dealerships lot. Mirrors give me a one second look at what’s going on behind in case I had to make an evasive move due to some bone head with 3 girl friends and a phone. The ticket / RO got me out of a ticket as the customers vehicle had dated tags. The officer followed several blocks back to the dealer. But like riding my bagger, I made a point of using mirrors for defensive driving ever since I saw the 17 year old girl in a Dodge Neon riding my taillight 4 feet away in a 40 MPH. I simple kept tapping brakes to confuse her, wake her up and no give up my lane by slowing down. It worked! So truck, car or bike I am using good mirrors action frequently! Thanks for the update on the door and winter sucks! Have a lucky one!

Nice. I’m working on a 70 c10 and had to use aftermarket doors and it takes a lot to make then work

how did you measure out where to drill the mirror holes? Thanks a bunch

I made a template off my old door for the initial holes then later opened them up using the same style mirror I will be using to get the alignment and overall size correct. If you don’t have access to an old door there are original GM drawings online that give you the correct measurements with a Google search. If you’re going to use a Chevelle mirror with a higher up on the door mounting like some do for a sportier mirror I would get the mirrors first to template.
