Just a quick comment for those who have not yet gone through the school of hard knocks. THIS IS NOT A QUICK AND SKILLESS JOB. You really have to follow every step in order to get good results, otherwise you get crap. Do not try to dry sand your clear coat off either --it will leave deep scratches. If you don't like the way it turned out, don't panic! Use 2000 grit sandpaper to wet sand, after you have let your clearcoat dry at least a day. Than use some compound with a buffer to really shine it up nice. You can save your paint job this way.

If you are on a budget, then this is a good way to do it. If you don't have any time constraints you can even get a paintshop perfect result by letting the base coat dry a few days and then lightly smooth sand it with really high grit and later do the same to the clear coat with an extra step of polishing the clear coat. You can get a mirror finish with some extra time and elbow grease.

A few tips.. - Once sanding is complete, PUT ON GLOVES. Your hands carry many oils, and washing them won't fix this. Touching the panel with your hands will transfer oils and compromise your work. - Clean panel with wax & grease remover on a clean lint free towel. Be sure to get all of the panel edges. Open adjacent panels (hood, door) to get to the edges if needed. - Mask off your area (if required), clean the panel again, then tack it. - Start your spraying in the "hard to reach" areas, such as the edge of the fender that's next to the hood, the edge by the door, the edge by the headlight, and the underside of the fender (wheelwell arch). Your normal back and forth spray pattern will most likely miss these areas. If the clear doesn't "envelope" the entire panel, and falls short on one edge, guess where it's going to peel first? Just some constructive tips, otherwise you did a good job. Judging by the fact that it is a 10+ year old Hyundai, you just wanted it to look better, which you definitely achieved.

Quite amazing results and very reassuring so thanks for the instructional video. Prepping well obviously takes some time but the return for that effort is appears to be well worth it. I have a ‘95 Miata with custom pain that was horribly expensive and doesn’t come in spray cans. Hopefully I will be able to bypass the paint coat step and still get a acceptable end result.

I really enjoyed the short and simple video. This guy didn't waste no time with all the unnecessary talking and bs. Obviously if your pain is bad you going to go by the base coat. If your clear coat is messed up and obviously you know that you have to go by the clear coat. This video actually inspired me to start working on my classic car one panel at a time.

@mimig5843 Жыл бұрын
@@ghostzzz3988 I painted it last summer and it didn't look as good as Mad4Motor's 😂 lol but it did give our 20 year old vehicle a facelift. I fixed an area on the hood. It was really hard to get a good angle and probably would have come out better if I could have painted the entire hood. Its slightly noticeable, but I just wash and wax it regularly and its not unsightly. I'd suggest anyone trying this to buy good quality spray paint and take the extra time to protect surfaces you don't want painted, even practice first. I had some overspray of clear coat and it's still a little rough there. But all in all, until I can have it done professionally I'm not mad at it.

Thank you for posting this video. It was extremely informative and your instructions where easy to follow along with. It’s amazing to me that you where able to get the results you got using spray cans. Very impressive. I have this very same problem with my HHR SS. A shop in my area gave me a quote of 5k just to prep and spray the passenger fender and door. After watching your video I’m definitely going to give it a try. So again thank you for taking the time to make this video and explain how this repair is done. Thank you

Basecoat always looks like that when its wet. As long as it looks right when its dry your ok. If you see orange peel or even worse fish eyes or crow feet then you have to start over because you have contamination under the clear and will have to sand it out and then try again. Also make sure to use wax and grease remover before spraying anything to help avoid those problems in the first place.
@bobbyborysiak51035 жыл бұрын
Wow, great job! The car looks amazing where you touched up. I have a small patch of clearcoat that peeled somehow on my F30 front bumper thats needs to be done. If only I can have the guts to do what I just watched from you especially the sanding process. Just don't want to screw it up and make it looking worse!
@krikri33875 жыл бұрын
Use a high grit, like 800, so you will not damage the surface, and if the surface is not smooth then try to go lower and more aggressive grit like 600 or less. Make sure you use water while sanding
