I know how much you love stew mac but they have a video I watched shows you how to spray lacquer on wax paper or something like that to make your own lacquer patch to recreate and match patina. I love watching your channel tho.

Hi Dave, any chance of a look at the truss rod screw head, and any numbers/date stamps on the heel. I'm wondering 'cos on my pre bullet truss jazz neck, the only number showing is 42017. Cheers Mate.

That Fender High Mass is a great bridge but I reverted back to the classic threaded rod. It just worked so much better but unfortunately the high mass left an imprint in the nitro. That's fine though, more character added to a bass I don't intend to part with.

I have a couple of woodchucks that live under my shed. Do you just put some peanut butter in the spot you want routed out? Seems more effective than a spoon.

So if I understand you're not going to reposition that bridge, you're just going to drill through the basswood plank exactly where the original screw holes are underneath?

Not going to use the shielding from the back of the pickup. Now that's interesting :'(
@ian-c.017 жыл бұрын
It's foam, not shielding, it was supposed to act as a type of suspension spring but it is too old and way past it's best.
@offbeatbassgear7 жыл бұрын
Jazz bass single coils often don't have the metal shield plate on the bottom that you're used to seeing in the Precision-style basses. For some reason the single split coil pick-up more often has the shield plate. Those were the foam cushion plates that were used to give a bit of counter-force to the adjusting of pick-up height.

Or you can make your own wiring template out of some cardboard or wood paneling or something. Probably only take about ten minutes to do.

Hey Dave great video, what strings do you recomend for a begginer please?
@Jorduan1007 жыл бұрын
Whether bass or guitar, its a good idea to start with thinner gauge strings (such as the ernie ball "super-slinkies") as they are easier on your hands

Dave, when did Fender use the stacked knobs on the Jazz bass?
@offbeatbassgear7 жыл бұрын
That was only for the first year, I believe, which would make it sixty-one through the start of sixty two, if I remember correctly.
@nbadhorse7 жыл бұрын
Thank you.
@offbeatbassgear7 жыл бұрын
Apparently first introduced in the latter part of 1960, then phased out completely by the middle of 1962 when the current three knob configuration replaced it.

I've never liked fretboard binding on bass necks. It's not functional. It does nothing good for neck feel or playability and gets in the way if or when it's time for a refret. The first bass I ever owned in high school had binding on the neck because I didn't really know better yet when I bought it. Never again after that one.
