Too much shit in modern muscle that doesn't have anything to do with making it go or stop. You can get most older muscle cars to handle well with bolt on kits. Its hard to strip all the unneccesary crap out of newer cars to get the weight down.

So much fun growing up in the 80's. Bought a numbers matching 1970 GTO for $1500. Beat the new Corvette, beat a Porsche 911. All expensive cars. As a 17yr. old, was like being the underdog.

Well, there's nothing like a small car with a big motor. 707 hp Hellcat? Wow! Even if it had drag slicks on it, it'd probably be in the jersey barrier. For some reason, every new high horsepower car I see a video of, Mustang, Challenger, Camaro or Vette, just can't seem to keep it straight on hard acceleration. It's all about horsepower to weight ratio, and traction. 1000 hp doesn't mean shit, if you can't get it to the ground.

Dyno Don was better tho!
@foxfordcatguy22835 жыл бұрын
Chris Daigle I'm Bob Glidden's (self proclaimed) #1 fan. When did Bob Glidden run a Maverick? He ran Pintos, a '70 Mustang, Mustang IIs, Fairmonts, an EXP, T-Birds, Probes, (and yes a Plymouth Arrow for 1 season and a Chevy Monza at 1 race but didn't qualify) but I've never seen a picture or heard of him running a Maverick. Hubert Platt, Dyno Don (Ford's first NHRA Pro Stock win was Dyno Don's 427 S.O.H.C. Maverick at the 1972 Summer Nationals), and Gapp & Roush (the 4-door "Tejana Taxi") ran Mavericks.
@foxfordcatguy22835 жыл бұрын
Correction: I remembered wrong, "Dyno" Don's PS Maverick won the '71 Summer Nats not '72. For '72 he went with a 351C Pinto. Also: Wayne Gapp's 4 door Maverick was a Boss 429. He was Ford's head engineer in charge development of the Boss 429.

By now, this many years later you may have learned. Don't do your burnout IN THE WATER. Get the tires wet, pull out of the water and get some heat in them. Hold the car straight with the steering wheel during your burnout. Spinning in the water puts a bunch of water in your wheel well that rains down on your tires before you launch.
@scarbourgeoisie3 жыл бұрын
I'm digging old Mavericks lately for some reason. Having a 1400 to 1500 weight advantage kind of helps on launch. Given the distance, this race was over before it started. Had the race been longer, the Hellcat would have eventually freight trained the Maverick. Good race though.

wish i scooped up a few mavericks back in the day, their actually a bit pricey these days. my first car which dad supposedly gave it to me was a yellow maverick but he ended up selling it before i got a motor for it. i ended up getting "its brother" later a 74 mercury comet so it was actually my first car technically

The Mopars probably jealous or pissed. The Maverick isn't that heavy but still never underestimate that little car.
