I love the 3D printed starter handle and tiller handle.

Thanks Greg! I'm selling the starter pull handles. I haven't decided if the tiller grips are worth selling yet. With the time it takes to print them and risk of failure during printing I'm not sure yet if it is worth making those for sale. I have all the rubber pieces for the 1954-1958 Johnson aluminum cowls for sale also. Face plate grommets, rope plate grommets, choke pull grommets, front and rear cowl bumpers, and the retainer straps. If you're interested in any of that stuff, send an email to JohnErudeRepop at gmail dot com and I can send you a current parts and price list and a picture of my display board. Thanks for watching!

Yep, this is a nice runner with fairly low hours. I figured it would be worthy of flame paint. These 25hp 22 c.i. motors are pretty hot-rodded factory motors. Thanks for watching!

Another super video Ben! I really like those graphics! They look sharp! A very lightweight person could just about ski behind that! I am impressed with how it runs and how it looks! Very good! Mark in Iowa.

Thank you so much. Yes, a smaller person could certainly water-ski behind this combination. I have seen a grown man water ski behind a 10hp Johnson outboard on a small aluminum boat. Standing start was of course necessary. This might even pull a small skier up out of the water. With a 10P prop, it has lots of grunt. I'm running 11P in this video. It is an excellent runner and I like how the graphics turned out too. I also still have the original cover for it. Thanks for watching, Mark!

I remember the first time I heard the name "JohnnyRude". I heard it from an outboard mechanic from Alaska, about 1975. He said there were a lot of JohnnyRude's up there..........

It is definitely a term that has been around a while. I don't remember where I heard it first. They're my choice in outboards, so I thought it was an appropriate name for my channel and mismatch franken-motors. Thanks for watching!

Yep, that's it. JohnnyRude is a term for Johson and Evinrude outboards doe to the companies sharing engineering when under the OMC umbrella and eventually merging their product lines in 1956. From that point through the time OMC sold out to BRP. I seem to always build motors with parts from both brands when something breaks or is broken on a motor I buy. 👍 Thanks for watching!

It was nice to meet you in person! Suggestion here: How about giving us viewers a quick look around at Tomahawk when you get there? Some of us will probably never get to go to the meet and it would be nice to see it through your video! Be safe enjoy your trip!

Hey there, nice looking motor for sure! I have the same model Evinrude and two 18hp Fastwin's,a 1967 and a 1964, I also have two electric shift 40hp Evinrude Larks, and three 40 hp standard shift Evinrude Larks, and finally one long shaft 25 hp around a 1980 or so. I just got a 30 hp 1950's Johnson, and three little green motors of some kind. Needless to say, I like Evinrudes!
@oldjohnnyrude8404
@oldjohnnyrude8404 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You have a pretty good collection going there. Love those Jetstream cowl Evinrude Fastwins! The 40s are great motors too. Not much for the electric shift myself, but if they work, they're fine. Just too much room for failure for my liking. Thanks for watching!
@crazylare1
@crazylare1 2 жыл бұрын
@@oldjohnnyrude8404 I'm not real fond of them either... I was going to take the power heads off and put normal shifting bottoms on them so that I have a charging system on the manual shift motors, then sell the electric shift lower units. Both work. Do you know anyone that would be interested in the old 50's Johnson 30hp it's a funky red color and has a strange hood that folds up in the middle, or the three unidentified 3 little green one's? They are just taking up space in my pole barn and I have no interest in them.
@oldjohnnyrude8404
@oldjohnnyrude8404 2 жыл бұрын
@@crazylare1 That's a good plan on what to do with the electric shift Larks. Where are you located? I can see if I can find someone interested. If you're close enough, I'd be interested in the 30 and could find good homes for the others if you're simply looking to get them out of the way.

I too have a JohnsonRude. Blew up my 1959 Johnson 35 and replaced the powerhead with a '59 Evinrude. That is one nice rig! Fast and stable. Runs like a champion. I do NOT like the flame job. C'mon!

Those big old 35s are fun, torquey motors to run. This boat was pretty fast with this motor on it. This motor spends most of its time on my '59 Alumacraft Model R 12 footer now. It's good for 28-29mph on the R. Flames are not everyone's cup of tea. I still have the original cover. This was a badly faded spare cover, and I like flames so here we are. Thanks for watching!

What do you think about the 9.38x12 prop for the motors I have a 84 no thru hub eghaust motor on a 14ft tracker have the 11 pitch getting 33 wanting to go with the 12 pitch do you think it will be too much pitch?
@oldjohnnyrude8404
@oldjohnnyrude8404 Жыл бұрын
The '84 25hp is a completely different motor. 31.7 c.i. vs 22 c.i. displacement. Without knowing what RPM you are turning tha engine at with your current setup, there is no good way to know if the additional pitch is going to help.or hurt. 33mph is really cranking along. I don't think you're going to gain very much if anything. I believe you're about at the limit of the hull at 33 mph. Thanks for watching!

@oldjohnnyrude8404 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Congratulations on your new motor. I usually use Purple Power and a small scrub brush to degrease the powerhead, lower pan, and midsection then thoroughly rinse. Don't let it sit too long or it can damage / oxidize the paint. Thanks for watching!

1973 is the first year of the low-tension magneto. Does your motor have spark on both plugs? That ignition system is a bit more finicky as a rule than the earlier Universal magneto like the one on the 1972 and earlier version. The points mist be clean and set spot on. All the grounds need to be clean and the coils and condensers need to be in top condition for that ignition to function well. That's where I would start with it. Thanks for watching!

I got the same motor homie, 66 fast win, johnnyrude here taught me how to fix it up from over 1000 miles away, it’s how/why I found his channel. It’s the first old outboard I did up, and it’s my best runner, and it’s my favorite one that I have. They are super easy to work on, even the impeller… I also have a 69 Johnson 18, the evinrude is so much more stylish…

The 6 Hp pushed it to 15 mph so this did not even double that. But I'd prefer the 25 for when I have three people and a cooler of fish & ice.
@oldjohnnyrude8404
@oldjohnnyrude8404 2 жыл бұрын
That is correct. HP required to double speed of a given hull on the water is far more that double. More like sqaring the HP is usually required to double the speed. The 25 is a great motor for a loaded boat and passengers. Thanks for watching!

Can you change a 1980 25 hp johnson to a 35 hp if so what is all involved thank you in advance.......
@oldjohnnyrude8404
@oldjohnnyrude8404 2 жыл бұрын
In the 32c.i motors, at minimum the carburetor and intake have to be changed to the 35hp counterparts. I'm not sure if there are more parts that need to be changed or not without looking the parts up and ding some comparative research. These motors MUST be propped correctly for conditions to not allow them to over rev. They have a habit of self destructing if allowed to turn too many RPMs. For best results they should be kept at or below 5500rpm at WOT. Thanks for watching!
