Denny gets down and gets funky in a 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV driving around Palm Springs and checking out some of the amazing 70s architecture
(The car color is Pastel Lime )
TechSpec Correction: The car is 6.6 Feet wide or 2.1 Meters , the graphics are wrong

Great episode! I really enjoyed the combination of architecture and petrol head. 😊 This brings back such memories as my grandmother had one of these and I spent lots of time peering out those opera windows in the back. She drove it like it was a sports car - foot to the floor and one hand on top of the wheel. I guess I come by it naturally. 😂

Great video of a great car. My grandfather bought one in 1972 and I ended up with it in 1978 when I turned 16. It was a massive car but I loved driving it. I was that rare teenager that buckled up both the lap and shoulder belts when I drove and I am glad to see you buckled up your belts. I always thought the car actually drove and handled better with the belts buckled. Have fun with the car.

There have been some questions about the color, it is Pastel Lime, and a correction for the TechSpec the Width is 6.6 feet or 2.1 Meters, the graphics are wrong and show it based on 70.9 inches not the actual 79 Inch width

All of the music comes from a licensing library called Artlist artlist.io , you might be able to download some of the mpgs on a free trial or find them on soundcloud. Two comments: I thought brutalist was Soviet architecture. If you fasten that shoulder belt you cannot reach anything but the steering wheel, the gear shifter and the door opener.
@thecarsofpalmsprings
@thecarsofpalmsprings 5 ай бұрын
A quick search and Wiki says it actually started in the UK ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutalist_architecture. Though it does certainly seem like it was Soviet inspired it seems to be an international time period style vs a nationality style. Yeah those early 3 point seat belt systems were something to be desired, one of the first was in the 1964 Volvo 1800 and it does limit movement for sure , thanks fro watching and commenting !

I like it, but like the MK III"s better. The 72' Thunderbird was beter looking in my book (but not by that much), and the 68' Landau FORDOR Thunderbird is the absolute best looking vehicle for 1968, unless you want a 2 door T- Bird, which has a shorter wheelbase and corresponding shorter length. The 68'-69' MK III's are heavier than 68'-69' Thunderbirds with suicide doors, but by how much, I do not no. The MK III's may be as much as 500 pounds heavier then that of the shorter wheelbase 2 door Thunderbird, with it's short stroke 429 ThunderJet and wrapped up in a smaller package. The 460 was assembled using hand selected fits for the first two years, which gave it noticibly more power than advertised. I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for the 429, as the 68' 429 Bird was noticibly more powerful than the 67' 428 ThunderJet in the same damn vehicle.

Why do they call it the "Brutalist Style?" Never heard of it, but that mean nothing. It's kind of square and rectangular, and science fiction looking. Did I answer my own question?,.......... or is it just the architectual critics talking?
@thecarsofpalmsprings
@thecarsofpalmsprings 11 ай бұрын
I guess because it is so raw and basic, found this: The term Brutalism is derived from the French word for rough concrete or “beton brut”. Brutalist structures have a heavy mass and scale. And their highly sculptural blocky shapes are often stacked together in various ways, creating an unbalanced look. Thanks for watching and commenting !
