We'd stopped by Newbery's for pizza after school. Young girls and boys taking the bus without any fear or threat. May Company was my favorite go to because they had a book section and beautiful Christmas decorations. Those were the days, my friends, we thought they'd never end😔

You can see the smog in the distance of all.of these photos, the 70s and early 80s were super smoggy, I remember smog alerts in school

Just started high school. A couple mile bus ride into Downtown and my friends and I would be walking among the folks pictured. Forgot how nice it was. Thank you for posting and reminding me of those times. Cool music accompaniment.

It was already dirty at that time, too, but not like it is now.

That shot of the clear blue skies, I remember that day. It was in early December that year. I had been living in Long Beach for six months and that morning was the first time I had seen the San Gabriel Mountains.

Funny you mention a clear day. A co worker was fairly new to to the area, specifically Long Beach and wondered where/when the mountains suddenly appeared. The rest of us burst out laughing!

The first one is at the North West corner of Main Street and 3rd looking North. There are three bars in that building alone, and dozens more along Main street when it was a hot spot for nightlife.

72 was a helluva year…. especially musically so many classic tours like the Rolling Stones many others.

1:53 that Giant penny store sign is iconic. It's kinda sad they didn't keep it.

1972 I was 9 years old. My mom would take us to the Million Dollar Theater. How time flies. It was nice and clean, not like now.

When tax dollars weren't misappropriated and they actually had a Police presence on the streets.

I like how when we see 98% American cars on the roads, and I not seeing anybody getting carjacked or sucker punched in the face like we have today.
