It seems a fair number of people who own these cars hold on to them for decades. My dad bought a 1972 Satellite Sebring for my mom in October, 1971. It wound up becoming my first car and I still have it. A grocery getter B body, in better than average driver condition. Over the years, I upgraded the suspension and braking to Roadrunner standards. A nice car for long trips or bopping around town. I missed out on a black ‘72 Roadrunner with a 400/4-speed and gold strobe decals about thirty years ago.

We had a 1972 Sattelite Sebring Plus. It was Basin Street (sometimes called Petty) Blue with a white canopy top. It had the optional bench seat with the fold down arm rest. It also had the Rallye Cluster instrument panel with the 150 mph speedometer. The car was silverish gray on the underside with lots of chrome including dual rear view mirrors. It was powered by the ever reliable 318 CI V8 engine. We called the car Old Blue. Such a beautiful, comfortable and reliable car. We still miss it, and wish that we had never sold it.

I remember those Cassette recorded slide shows from school back in the 70's. We would yell out "press the button" when the teacher would miss the little bell tone signaling that it was time to advance to the next slide. Ahh... The good ol' days.

I owned a '71 Roadrunner, with a 383 magnum and a 727 torqueflite...had a console shift, black buckets, and it was fast as HELL...had a cam, headers, Mallory ignition, and a Holley 4 bbl carb... Damn, these cars were fun, and I miss this proud old Mope. Cool to see, thanks for posting. I had the car in '83 or '84... Far out to see the old girl Brand New... Simpler Times!

Paul, I really liked this grille better, more Aero, like a splitter on a jet intake. Nose IS the car. Profile is OK, but dead on, or 3/4 from rear, ...nose Appears as it does to air/wind, hurricane forces at 225 . . ..pointy. (been there....in this) I have detailed files, as do law enforcement NC, GA, SC, FLA, TEXAS, NEVADA, New Mexico, Germany, Australia.... Cheap shipping out of Oakland, Military space available......25 bucks to earth,,,,, don't leave home....

Paul,...see the cut lines at wheel openings ? Ray Fox, R+D, Wind Tunnel, spec'd design, so teams could be consistant. Usually cut only front opening, leave rear, depending on track and class level running in. These bodies used lots in Busch Series, called less than that then. Lots of independent player / drivers, on their own, buying fromBIGS, who had spares to dump. Fox's own last 'G' was 1971 Canadian leftover line mule, stripped, gutted for last production ordered (mostly) and was "body in white" as had been built 888 paint code (special / Fleet-truck / delete) He and his sons Raymond Jr. and David (my Bud), drove it from Upper Penninsula Michigan, to Cocoa Beach , Florida....overnight. Maybe in daylight, as likely never had harnesses OR light systems installed on line. Lucky to have windshield, as no other glass, cranks fuzzies or rubber, other than 15 X 7" steel 'delivery' black wheels /tires I have pictures. Boys did most driving, as Ray is a thirsty old man. Six milk crates. Three for them, and three for oil, water, beer, and extras Ray knew they might need in a naked car. Next pix I have of it, sitting on pit road in line... Somewhere.....over the ...rainbow, ran OK, parked near cars( you'd , I would) recognize in "72...w/ Winston fresh rule books) top ten of grid. as ALL his team cars, NOT all cars he built for E V E R Y body else... Bone white (as in Bad 2 the) more like 'cheap' # 3 in RED, Gold / RED pair stripe up nose, driver's side, over helmet (roof), and sometimes on trunklid / tail. Junior Johnson's Holly Farms Impala....# 3, A # 3 DODGE DAYTONA, bone with red wing,stripes.....sponsor ? REDWING boots, a Busch level car, lots of wings were. Where "get in, buckle up, shut up, hang on, and drive", quote came from. Lots of guys made it only a lap or two...and died. Friends. Their dreams...instantly...at speed unbeleivable at the time. THESE ^ king said "better". HIS favorite race car '71 / '72s G bods. Way less 'squirrley by his taste. A bullett.

Paul....posted Cale Yarbrough # 3 Ray Fox Plymouth Road Runner 1971 on my facebook today....Ray moved, mounted BODY (take THAT you profile grid tech inspectors with template) BACK 3 inches, on the wheelbase. (also checked), but never by same guy, same time). So openings are "off" to only you and me, who stared while waxing. (I siliconed with resin). LOOKING for "Super Coupe" rims four.

they were still announcing the availability of the 440 6bbl at this early stage...that engine was dropped before production on the '72 model year started, although there is evidence that a couple Chargers and RR's were built with it.

Only had a 72 Satellite 318 - but boy did it handle and perform for such a nondescript car. Should have kept it.

I wasn't even around then and how I wish I had been. Cars from that era are so much more exciting than the bland, homogenized little eggs on wheels we are offered today. Some of the lines on these cars look so sharp it is amazing! Try and find anything close to that in a Toyota. I was also impressed with the fact that you could put a 4x8 panel in the back of the station wagon and shut the tail gate. I have an '07 Dodge Dakota pickup and I can't shut the tail gate with a 4x8 sheet in the back. I wonder how many sheets of wood paneling these cars carried home to someone's basement rec room. I cannot say how much I would like to own one of these classics one day.

They built 672 GTX optioned Roadrunners in 72'. They continued the option in 73'and 74' ,
