Great work Elin. The Snap-On analyser is such a valuable tool , but like you, a visual inspection of the plugs was always my 'go to' method of getting the fuel/air mixture into the ball park. When you consider what a basket case that poor car was when it arrived at your shop I recon the owner is now delighted with all the work you've done. Looking forward to seeing how Nik's car is progressing.

Back in the day (1962) our MGA would just stop running, or would not start. Then it would run fine for a few days or a week and then suddenly die and either restart without problem or would only restart after some time. I noticed one day that it would always restart after I measured voltage at the coil or the ground at the distributor. Finally, after a few weeks I noticed that the spade lug on the (Lucas) coil moved when I pressed the test probe to it. The lug is held on with rivets that eventually loosen and no longer make reliable contact. I replaced coil and distributor with Mallory parts (thanks to my uncle Al, VP of Mallory) and we had no more problems with ignition.

Thanks, Elin, for each of your videos! I’m so thankful for my Dad teaching me the basics of auto mechanics, but it is so good to see your reinforcement such as the changing colors of the spark plugs. Any of your projects are lovely to see…yes I’d vote for Miata too since they’re already shot! Prost 🥃!

Elin, thanks for showing us your method of checking the plugs for proper burn on setup. I've always checked them before replacing with new, but never tried that check tor carb adjustment.

Good job Elin! I will deduct 2 points from your score for not showing the finished interior. I believe I saw Anna smile when you pointed her way, it sure would be nice to see her progress.

That was a great video series. No doubt if I had a TR-anything that needed work beyond my tool availability or needed your special mind-meld capability I'd be driving or towing it to you. Great job Elin. I'm anxious to see Anna back in the restoration bay and to see you driving Tush's rustoration TR4 for its first legal road test. 6-Pack is coming up soon. 🙂

Couldn't you also put a resistor in series with the primary circuit to increase the resistance of the coil? Since 3 Ohm coils are so difficult to find, it would seem a better solution. Kind of adding a ballast that's on all the time.

Sounds good! Do you have any videos setting up CD150 carbs and using the unisyn? You just quickly touch on it here.
@leonguyot4991 Жыл бұрын
Great Video, but I personally would not use ATF in the top of the carbs simply because it can damage the rubber diaphragms, I prefer 3 in 1 oil.

So did you get your coil back? Did you end up using that used muffler once you blew out that mouse's nest? I had the same issue with a used muffler I installed, worked fine once it blew out the nest.
@RustyBeauties Жыл бұрын
Yes, I used the exhaust. It blew the $&1T out after it was installed so…. But like yours it ran well after it popped it out :) There was no time for a new coil so I let the car go with mine on it. The owner will buy a new one and replace it himself.

@@RustyBeauties Thank you RustyBeauties for answering all my questions, I really enjoyed this TR-6 series as it had a little bit of everything and I like how you interspersed it with the Rustoration series as well.

It's worrying how many Triumphs must be running around with completely the wrong coil on them... you need to keep a few 3 ohm ones in stock !
