We install the head, the freshly rebuilt rocker shaft and we adjust the valves. The rest of the engine assembling can continue on the frame so let's move it there so we can install the flywheel and clutch too.

That head looks gorgeous! Watching Anna progress under your care makes me happy I never restored her. I would have butchered the job and she’d be in a scrapyard in Camden.

The way that I remember the sequence of tightening the head nuts is I think of a piece of rumpled paper on a table. If you want to straighten it, you put your hands flat on the paper, next to each other in the middle, and move them to the outside of the paper. When loosening the nuts, you do it in reverse if I remember correctly.

Glad to see Anna's engine back on the frame, I hope to here her running soon. This video was more enjoyable when drinking coffee from my new "Rusty Beauties" mug. Take the dog for a drive.

For old rusty hardware, after you sand blast the rust off, you can electroplate the hardware or just spray it with Castblast paint. I use it to get a new look on hardware and alumablast on aluminum to make it look like new.

Elin, You should make up a DIY electroplating station to re-plate your hardware in Zinc - that will stop them rusting right away. Eventually the zinc fails but it's many years from now. I did this on my Jag restoration and it worked great. Complete kits are available from Caswell Plating but you can make your own too. So happy to see the GT6 making progress again.

Well done, it's getting exciting now major step getting the engine back in. Nobody will see that crankshaft in 50 years I'm sure!! From what I remember Box wrenches in British English are tubular generally thin wall some with two sizes, so we would normally use ring spanners the same as you used Look forward to seeing the next installment. Good luck from Spain!!

How is the condition of the clutch disk? When I did the transmission I replaced the pressure plate, disc and throw out bearing. Curious to know how they held up.

I can’t wait to hear this beauty running! I have a question for you. I’m restoring a 66 Midget for my granddaughter, and rebuilding a 1098 engine. I’m also one of the guys that caught the upside down springs. 😊 Would you have access to specs that would tell me the crank centerline to deck surface height and cyl head thickness?

In a previous video you used gasket maker on the bottom of the rocker shaft to insure a seal between the pedestal and the block. Any reason to not do it? I know you will need to remove the pedestal to re-torque the head.

You aren't the only one with that pet-peeve... the rusty hardware thing. Some solve this by coating their nuts with zinc. I guess they use a home electro-plating kit. It is also possible, I think, to buy comparable hardware in zinc or even stainless steel. I know that can be expensive in both time and money... so it will depend, I guess, on just how much of a pet-peeve you have.

Should that input shaft bearing push in with your fingers? I don't think it should be that loose.

You should be able to just spin it…if you need to force it in or even tap it in it’s too tight.

It's held in by the flywheel.
@johngidman4574
@johngidman4574 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelstoliker971 no, it's not. You don't have to remove the flywheel to replace a pilot bearing and they don't make pilot bearing pullers for fun. Pilot bearings should only wear on the inside. The bearing and the crankshaft should move as one unit. I've removed them by packing them full of grease and pounding either an old input shaft or a hardwood dowel, taken down to the correct size. This creates a hydraulic pressure which drives the bushing out. There's no way they should go in like a coin in a coin slot.

@@johngidman4574 Interesting, then why didn't Elin insert the pilot bushing after installing the flywheel? Dealer's choice?

It is fitted temporarily to fit the gearbox in order to start the engine. Then gearbox off, inspected/rebuilt. New clutch and refit transmission. He also used a clutch centering tool.
