As devastating as it is to receive notification that your loved one was KIA during any conflict/war is sad, I can only imagine to received notification that a loved one is MIA/unaccounted for would be far worst. the status of the POW/MIA issue April 12, 2023, 1,579 Americans are now listed by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) as missing and unaccounted-for from the Vietnam War.

While I was raised believing it was a war that had to be fought and was won and anyone thinking otherwise wlould be a "traitor", I left those feeling of hatred and lies long ago behind and now I feel sadness for all friends and family members lost in a foreign country or in the streets upon their return, left to rot having to deal with all the wrongdoings (crimes) committed during that time. I must say I finally understood it when I saw people of my generation (and specially next gen) returning from Afghanistan and Irak. Devoid of all the humanity, joy and hope they once had.

I had a friend in 6th grade (1969) whose pilot father was a known POW. That year the POW bracelets appeared and many of us wore one with his name. It made the war and its impact on individuals real to us. If I could remember her name I would research to learn the ultimate result of his captivity. John McCain’s book Faith of My Fathers was a harrowing look at what those men endured.

Far less than in World War II from aerial bombings. However, remember out motto, there are no civilians only targets. There were 2,000,000 civilian deaths, but Americans didn't kill them all. There were a lot of Vietnamese on Vietnamese killings. 😃😃😃😃😃😃

And as long as the Dems try to educate their people instead of chosing good candidates (imagine Sanders vs Trump instead), this will happen again. As sad as it is for Americans, remember the American Government was the one who invaded Vietnam for no reason and sent these poor American kids to die in Vietnam playing the role of saviour of the Capitalist world, in exchange for the deaths of millions on both sides. Very similar to Iraq. Remember the protest back in the day in front of the White House chanting: “Hey! Hey! Hey! LBJ! How many kids did you kill today?” And What was the outcome of this war? The entire region became communist in the end, and how bad is it today?. It's great, Vietnam has since been flourishing and you may ask yourself why. You may say, yes but their human rights. There are many human rights violated in the US also. for the Immigrants, illegal citizens, gays, blacks, asians, Guantanamo, innocent people in jails. What about those human rights?

I question the accuracy of the NVA’s tally. 3882 aircraft can’t be correct? I’m aware that they had many SAM sites but I believe that number is greatly exaggerated.
@SaigonMikael Жыл бұрын
I believe that number includes helicopters
@doomsday9973 Жыл бұрын
@@SaigonMikaelnope. Including helicopters we lost close to 10k aircraft total. Just the Air Force lost 2700 aircraft alone, not counting marines and navy
@SaigonMikael Жыл бұрын
@@doomsday9973 ok, thanks. The number mentioned here is probably not an exaggeration then. It is mind-boggling, though. My theory came from the number of helicopter pilots (or crewmembers) killed, which was somewhere in the mid 2000s.
@doomsday9973 Жыл бұрын
@@SaigonMikael no problem it really is astonishing how many aircraft we lost in that war. Most people can’t believe it. We literally lost roughly 3.9 aircraft per day. Also note that not all those losses were shoot downs (although the majority were) we also lost hundreds and hundreds to accidents, friendly fire etc. After Vietnam the Navy/Air Force etc did a lot of soul searching and tactics changes considering how bad the losses were

AAA batteries shot down the majority of US planes destroyed in combat. The SA-2 was surprisingly effective against the B-52s in Linebacker II, but AAA still did most of the work. Which makes sense considering that AAA is much cheaper and can be placed in a lot more places than the expensive missile batteries. So, you can underestimate these "outdated anti-aircraft batteries" as much as you like. Doesn't change history.
