They weren't the majority. They were sold zero sum game narratives that were easily sold. 50 years later, these same aggrieved folks and their children and grandchildren voted for an authoritarian who they hope will give them what they want. Every dictator in modern history has risen this way. The horrible thing is the legitimate complaints they have. Tapping into Nixon, Buchanan, Jerry Falwell, the wealthy prayer breakfast bunch, Fox, Murdoch, Gingrich, Bannon and Trump has been the default. And demonizing the bumbling left. Well, you have the raging toddler sociopath Trump now. Americans never understood fascism. They will now. Our species is only so smart.

I feel the same way about my head injury as I do the brain issues that menopause is causing me. It sucks to have to relinquish control and decrease activities and increase things that help your brain. It's exhausting and debasing.

Honestly, this is how I feel about Bob Dylan's album "Love and Theft". I dare you, go look up the release date, and ask yourself "what would i think if that happened to me?" Myself, I don't know the answer. This is why i stick with Bob Dylan and his enthusiasts, among others ❤

Fascinating. I enjoy hearing about the complexities of the human experience. Sharing our vulnerabilities makes us more connected which is really the point of it all.

This is a wonderful video. I believe it may be more important for those around the TBI person to understand than the victims, themselves. Speaking from experience, the family, co-workers, and friends do not receive this information and often take behavioral changes personally. In fact, they are many times dealing with a changed person/personality from the one they grew to love and enjoy the company of. Whether a stroke, motorcycle accident, football injury, or anything in between - the person you see in them is different...and the person they see in you is different. And it is difficult on both ends to accept the new reality.

This means that the brain damage suffered under fundamentalist intuitions is not damage that can be rehabilitated because, as is pointed out, the individual must be able to come to terms with what has happened to their cognition... and fundamentalists will not do that. The dissonance that creates the fractured logic, in the first place, keeps them from being able to see past it. A self reinforcing trauma cycle.
@MicahScottPnDСағат бұрын
There is a mind, a body, and a spirit. All of them can be damaged, for real. Institutional damage is akin to spiritual damage. Non-physical damage (ie mind or spiritual damage) can manifest in the body, like how ulcers emerge from stress. Stress has no measurements (width breadth or depth), yet when an ulcer emerges, that ulcer can in fact be measured in terms of width breadth and depth. Love is the answer ❤

@MicahScottPnD Look up the NIH study on fundamentalism and brain damage. The brain can't contain two diametricly opposed logic systems. It's almost as if it's an organic computer. The dissonance that is required by fundamentalists breaks the brain... literally.

I remember my grandma telling me, that the first time she had her monthly, she screamed, because she was bleeding and didn't know why. She said when she had my Mom and her sisters, she made sure they knew what it was, because when she was growing up, they didn't really talk about things like that. My Mom talked to me about things my grandma never told her, and now I will have the opportunity to do that with my kids.

I know many that had a stroke. Some cranky, some productive(although hobbling along). I also met a woman that was in a bad car accident. She had more virtue in her heart than 10 women combined!

It is quite interesting. I suffered a stroke at 57 years of age. I was right side paralyzed and could barely talk at all. Therapy was good. I suffered an open heat surgery 6 months later. I doesn't matter how you got your brain injury. The human being is a remarkable creation ! We can take a beating and keep on going ! I enjoy your videos Mr. Hoffman.

Multiple TBIs in my teen years, this is real. Understanding that what happened actually happened, accepting the new reality, and how to manage it. It's not an easy thing to solve, might take a life time, but we have to live with it and do the best we can with it, even if we never live up to our previous full potential. Very true. But there is peace and happiness in this - I no longer am affected by it the way I was, and while I'm nearly back to my old self (and a new self, really!), I don't fret over it. Memory aint so good? That's fine.

Baby Boomers are literally named that because they grew up in the most prosperous time in this country's history, brought to them by THEIR Silent Gen and Greatest Gen Parents, and LEFTY ASS MFING POLICIES THAT BUILT THE MIDDLE CLASS. They then grew up, took over, and changed it all so they could hoard all the wealth.
