Thank you for the lead on parts. I will see if they have a set of fork tubes as they are nearly impossible to find.

Looks great! I had a 71 r5 350 I gave up on ! All the seats I found were rusted out from the battery acid .

Hi nice vid work. I am half way through doing my 72 R5. How have you found the replica tank badges from HVC cycle?

I’m restoring a ‘72 as well, those tank badges are unobtanium. There are stickers made, but you need to put them on some type of plastic backing. Looking great!

You got that right! Already have the stickers and am going to do the plastic thing. Also the fork tubes are next to impossable to get!

John Simpson Yes, fork tubes are rare as well. HVC has them, but they’re not cheap. Economy Cycle is also another great parts source in the US for R5s and RDs.

I've heard a lot of things for cleaning exhaust (Cok-a-Cola, aluminum foils, steel wool, etc.) what do you use to get those results. I've got a couple of these I'd like to get back to "survivor status".

John, we in Shingletown are on the job. We will search even into Outter Mongolia for those parts~~~ I believe I have a friend of a friend, in Outter Mongolia, who may have seen some reindeer herder who knows a guy who may have those tank badges. It may take some time to get an answer, but we here in Shingletown are like Einstein, "The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." We are on it.... Looks nice John, how about making that "Bike Night" in my garage!!! Of course, unlike batteries, "Trailer included."

Here you go.. Not quite original but as close as it gets now. hvccycle.net/yamaha-yds7-yr5-fuel-tank-badge-yt04/ Also, replica shocks are available with chromed springs. Those don't look right in black and odd spring spacing.

Do you have links to where you got some of those small pieces and screws and bolts?

I use Partzilla OEM parts diagrams and order from them if I can wait to see if it is still available? They will list it but quite often it gets kicked back as "no longer available" The diagrams are so helpful! It will list a part# and if you search ebay for the part # most of the time someone has it for asle. If all that doesnt work you always have plan B a wire wheel. I really want to get into electical plating for all the nuts and bolts. Then a gold anodized finish.

I found the thing to run well before the tear down. I probably should have and may at some point. You mean split the cases and check everything?

I would definitely clean all of that white lithium grease off of the chain, it's going to attract every single dust and dirt particle you come across if you don't.
