Loved watching the guy kick starting wearing flip flops and shorts. Same way I did my 1983 FXWG in the Philippines. I didn't get my electric start fixed until I retired from the Navy.

After watching this build from beginning to end, I have to say. There were a lot of great tips, in your words of wisdom! But you need to turn up the volume so every one can hear what you have to say, or just speak up! People may think that this bike was a real pain in the ass to work on, but I find that this is about normal. They all seem to want a little extra special attention. Great videos! You gave out a lot of great information, for any one working on these bikes.

This has been a terrific series of videos to watch, Mr.Tatro is very experienced and knowledgeable, the overhauled bike is a credit to him. Good to see he actually fastened his helmet when test riding the bike. The bike sounds superb on tickover too. Not sure about the reality of riding any distance with ape hangers though !

This was an awesome rebuild series- thanks very much for posting this! Question: I know you said you guys were just fixing the motor up for the summer, and then it would be fixed right over the winter.. But, it looks like you did a quality rebuild! With the exception of the valves (I got the sense you'd have preferred to use tighter clearances, new valve springs, etc.) what else will need to be done to make this a better rebuild?
@TatroMachine7 жыл бұрын
the heads had to be redone later on. cheap valves are not the way to go. it just cost more down the road. i did enough for the motor to last at least another 5 years. it probably will last more. three years into it now and still going strong. tatro

How many miles will a proper built 93 or 98 shovelhead last before needing freshened up
@TatroMachine3 жыл бұрын
its all about how you take care of it or beat the crap out of it. next is how you put it together and after that its all about the quality of the parts. when i ride them they don't last very long at all. when the customers ride them they last for many years. tatro

what's your opinion on the longevity / mileage on this motor as opposed to a 93 ci build assuming each one was maintained properly
@TatroMachine7 жыл бұрын
it all depends on how you ride the bike and how it was built. most of the time the shorter the stroke the longer ans=d smoother the motor will be. this changes depending on how hard you ride. a big motor at low throttle settings will out live a smaller motor that is always at high throttle settings. tatro

What does it mean when the gas is on reserve? I appreciate all your videos!
@TatroMachine6 жыл бұрын
a petcock has three settings. one is off and two are on. the main feed on position is on but with a higher feed hole. when the gas level comes down to that feed hole you run out of gas. the 2nd feed hole or reserve is at the bottom of the tank and gets the last of the gas in the tank. if you are smart you will go get some gas before the 2nd feed hole runs dry. if not, you are walking. tatro

I have 72/FLH not a stroker but would love to find out cost. I was kicking it one morning owned it about a month this is 30 years ago. I kicked wasn't awake yet. And it tossed me over handle bars. I'm 6-2 200 pounds plus didn't have proper footwear. Took over month to stop limping around. So when you think your the boss. Bike will tell you. Have your fun but you WILL RESPECT ME. Have great live
@TatroMachine3 жыл бұрын
that is because you never learned proper kicking technique. you always let you weight just do the pushing to turn the motor over. i was kicking over 98ci stroker motors when i was only 130 pounds so you had to learn how to do things correctly or it never turned over. when you start kicking over sportsters you learn that you never straight leg you kicking style or you will break your knee from hyperextension. that goes for being tossed over the handlebars too. tatro
