I was at this DH with my brothers. Hot steamy day in the RF grandstands. Two old bags with big floppy hats (Sox fans) kept yapping the entire day. Someone finally got fed up and dumped beer on their heads. It was the biggest cheer all day 😂

Interesting that Kasko would have Cepeda bunting in the 9th. No manager today would have his top power hitter try to lay one down, especially in the 9th.

The Red Sox had both 1967 MVP ' s in the lineup. YASTREMSKI won the AL MVP in 1967. CEPEDA won the 1967 NL MVP. Interesting. I'm a Detroit Tigers 🐯 fan. I really enjoyed this game.

Yanks vs. Red Sox playing a double-header, on July 4, no less. Doesn't get better than that.

They don’t play double-headers any more. Player’s union says they are too much work for the ballplayers.

@@frederickrapp5396 That's symptomatic of when MLB lost me, when DHs (doubleheaders) disappeared, and the DH (designated hitter) became an integral part of the game.

I was at this DH. Sat in the upper deck on the rail, first base side. Yankees lost both games, both heartbreakers. I’m still upset about the outcome 48 years later. Time of first game 2:09. Note Rizzuto’s comment about taking a starter out in the ninth, who was pitching a gem. My has the game changed.

I was also sitting in that section and couldn't remember or perhaps did not see at the time whether the throw bounced or was just low. Bashe's book states the throw bounced but any good 1Bman would scoop it up. And what Blomberg did with the ball after shows why he should have been removed for defensive purposes whenever possible. It was the worst day I ever had at the stadium (the 1-0 loss in game two really capped it off). I am also bothered about it all these years later because it really did start the slide out of contention. It was also the last season I would follow the Yanks from beginning to end, as I was off to UNH in the fall. How about Rizzuto's premonition at the top of the 9th, "toughest three outs in baseball."

@@gregglantos2360 I was also at this DH, seats were in RF lower deck, fair territory. Two tough losses and agree that it started the Yanks' slide from first place. What I also recall about this day were the number of fights in the bleachers - security was non-existent. If memory serves, some morons even chucked cherry bombs onto the field.

If you take the first half of their 73 year and last half of 74, the Yanks have a great season.

Yanks had some good players but didn't have enough to win in 73-74. I don't think they knew how to win. They get Catfish in 75 and things begin to change.
