Comercial was awesome! Thats why I bought one. Off the showroon floor! Well not me I'm second owner, my father inlaw bought it and never off road it still has the original spare tire never been used! 1980 Cherokee Laredo 3 door wagon all original Black on Black in near mint Condition with power eveything! @alexcheetah79 EXACTLY! The essence of how Quadra-Trac works and transfers power front to rear and rear to front is what Subaru has been using in their manual transmission models since 1987. It uses a center differential with a viscous limited slip unit and a 50% front, 50% rear torque split. No electronics are used or needed. The reliability, effectiveness, simplicity, and brilliance of such a system has not changed.

@Goldenrod636 In TODAY'S terms, it's a full size SUV. Jeep had always called them station wagons, as it was the common, familiar term of the times. SUV (sport(s) utility vehicle) was the eventual agreed upon term that I believe Paul Harvey came up with in the mid-1980s. Mr. Harvey was a well liked, nationally known radio personality.

When I started buying my own vehicles in the '60s, I thought I wanted 4WD but the ones I examined seemed to have not much protection against the weather. Even the "hard top" versions were drafty. I assumed it was because of inadequate weather sealing around the doors or/and windows. If I had realized how much safer 4WD was in the snow, I think I would have opted for a 4WD vehicle more than a decade before I first bought one. Fortunately (for the history of the automobile), by the early '80s, there were people with enough money to buy the Wagoneer or the Grand Wagoneer and thus cement the "full-size" Jeep station wagon as a pioneer of the kind of luxury that matters most - being able to go where you need to go when you need to go.

@shanevogele REALLY bad by today's standards. I think 8-11 MPG around town and 11-16 highway. Like anything else, it depends on how you drive it, how it's equipped and how fast you go. It was comparable to full size big block American 2WD wagons of the time.
