I’m still getting used to a new editing program, so I do apologize for the delay! I’m still working out some things and that explains some of the mistakes. Anyway, this was such a fun car to research, absolute beast of a wagon.

Which program are you using? I really enjoyed the video, because as an auto parts sales guy, I have one customer with that latest body style Travelall. If I recall correctly, it's a 1974 model. Very good looking truck, but I haven't examined it up close. I've got to now!

thank you. i owned a 64 travell all. 304 mated to a 3 speed on the column shifter. i honestly think the 64 was the the best looking of the 4 generations. it would definitely pull the bottom out of hell. i pulled my 69 ford LTD with it from phoenix back home to yuma, just about 200 miles. while it was only 55 MPH back then, (1984). it had no problem maintaining that speed with a 5.000 pound car behind it. i once went to a mud hole in phoenix a bunch of guys were driving their 4 wheel drive lifted trucks through trying to prove they could make it across without getting stuck. most of them guys got stuck. so i manned up and drove my 2 wheel drive, lowboy corn binder through that hole with ease. lol some of those guys were all over me wondering what i had when i made it through. i eventually traded it in for a more modern car. a couple weeks later i found it in a salvage yard being cannibalized for parts. it broke my heart. now in my old age i wished i would have just kept it. thank you for the video. not many people know IH made trucks and SUVs.

Grew up with one of these in the 1970's, it was my moms ! It was a 1971 model with the 392 V8 and twin fuel tanks (It needed both). It was a solid beast, and I remember my dad swapping out the big Holley four barrel carburetor for something Holley called an "economaster" LOL !!

I had a friend who got his dad's 4th gen Travelall in the early 80s. It had the fake bark and probably every other option as well, and was an arresting shade of yellow-green. Her name was Tallulah and everyone loved the old girl. I have great memories of that car!

I believe these were also available in 4x4 too, mainly for commercial and government use. These were popular with those that pulled larger travel trailers, especially Airstream brand ones as well for traveling families with trailers. They had a true truck frame, heavy duty components that cars didn't have but yet sat lower than the Suburban and Jeep models. I also recall that later generation ones had a second gas tank option, but mounted under the front drivers side fender with a gas cap located there. That was important as you noted the fuel mileage, and more so with a big V-8 and towing, would suck up a lot of gas (maybe > 10 MPG).

Your memory is correct man. When I was looking through brochures, I saw it as an option.

I had a professor in college who owned a 1973 Travelall 4WD that could go anywhere. He bought it after it had been surplused out of the university motor pool and it still ran like a champ. I know after Harvester went into bankruptcy in the early 1980s he started having trouble getting parts for it, until he discovered that he could get a lot from a local AMC Jeep dealer.

My Dad owned one white with wood grain panels and black roof and blue interior . This was the largest vehicle we owned . There was 6 of us and my parents liked sportier cars at the age of 4 my dad had a 66 mustang and that was our only car and then an 66 Old Delta 88 coupe my mom's first car was a 70 Buick skylark 2 door . Then dad's Travelall came into the pic, in 77 my mom bought a 76 Chevy Camaro and Dad owned a 75 Dodge Charger .

The Wagonmaster name only lasted for 73, while in 74 it was a 5ft bed Travelette. They were marketed as a fifth wheel powerhouse, but the 5ft bed was too short and any trailer would cause damage to rear windows. (If i remember correctly, I also have a 73 & 74 brochure) Also IH sucked at keeping documents and production numbers around, so most were lost to time :/ If you want another nifty vehicle, I recommend looking at the Studebaker Wagonaire.

Despite what the marketing might have suggested, these were never wagons. I grew up in the 1960's as a car nut and I remember these and they were always a Suburban competitor and not a Country Squire competitor. It was even a stretch to think they were competing against Wagoneers because those were much smaller. The Travelall was much more like what is considered an SUV like a Suburban - and being so truck based, the marketing tried to make it seem snobbish to own one, there was nothing snobbish about the vehicle at all - interiors were low rent even compared with AMC products of that era. If my family's experience with a Scout is any indication of these Travelall's, they rusted like they were made of the thinnest metal. Five years in the North and these were toast from frame and body rot.

One of the problems with this Truck, is that it was still an International Truck. While they may have tried to appeal to the car buyer, their dealerships, were mostly in more rural areas. One did not go to an International “car lot “, you went to a Truck/Farm supply Dealership. I don’t remember any in urban areas. Good video. 🚗🙂

You do know Volkswagen is bringing Scout back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIK0eIecn85_rKc The Travel All would work well today in 2024. They just might bring it back as a third vehicle. Who knows. You did your homework and I know this one took some effort. You have a life outside the You Tube community. It is understandable. I hope you did well on your finals. Enjoy your winter break.
