What a beautiful series III. Personally I have always preferred the stance of the later model, and I must say the wheels really suit it (and I guess are far more practical than wires)

Thank you, much appreciated. I’ve never had wire wheels on a car, but imagine they’re not nearly as easy to maintain as the pressed steel wheels (original chrome from 1973). The centre caps are hard to come by, mind you. There’s another video “driving review” on the E-Type, if you’re interested. Take care.

Thanks! I thought they looked really good when I bought the car years ago and never contemplated changing them - not least because they’ve been on the car since 1973! The little hubcaps are actually quite nice too.

I have a vehicular bucket list of four cars and a motorbike and this video is one on the list and your channel thumbnail is another (the 1959 but I'd personally prefer four doors) For now I have to enjoy these vehicles vicariously through other owners such as yourself but as the old Jaguar tagline from an advert used to say "What are dreams for if not to come true?" For now I'll keep on enjoying the car and bike I already have but knowing I have my dreams to pursue also. Many thanks for sharing such a wonderful video.

My uncle had multiple Caddy’s (‘59 included), so I grew up with them. My thumbnail was a painting I had done for my garage (see also @swiss.road.trip on Instagram). I have another E-Type video I’ll be posting soon so keep an eye out. Glad you enjoyed it!

I have a series 2 E Type 4.2 litre , my only worry with the series 3 is there are a number of hoses buried within the engine and if one of those leaks or splits your in real trouble apart from that lovely car.

My E-Type was laid up for 15 years before I got it. We drove it for a while and then had the engine rebuilt and all of the coolant hoses changed (and flexible brake lines & fuel hoses too). Not worth the risk keeping ancient / brittle / corroded hoses even on a 20-25 yr old car like my ‘99 SL320.

Lots of people bought wire wheels post purchase (and needed hubs fitting too), not to mention the 4 exhaust tips. I liked the fact that mine came with original pressed steel wheels and also only two exhaust tips.

The series 3 came standard with grey painted pressed wheels with chrome wheel trim rings. Chrome pressed steel wheels and Chrome wire wheels were optional extras.

Yes, the car was purchased in May 1973 and five chrome plated pressed steel wheels were purchased in Sept 1973 for £93.50. Chrome still looks super!

I prefer the period chrome pressed steel wheels. I have them on my XJC. The wire wheels look too contrived on the Series 3 E Type.

That car does NOT have stock camshafts or exhaust

The camshafts are stock, the exhaust isn’t. I fitted stainless headers and free-flow resonators.
