Just a little vid of my 1973 Kawasaki G4TR project so far! Pulled it out of a garage, put together the parts it came with (with a few new parts in the mix), and now have a nice little around the neighborhood ripper. Put the wrong oil in it so I need to redo the clutch! That and intermittently dying when hot (bad coil?) and it'll be a commuter!

Pretty insane how good the paint on that is still! Almost no rust anywhere

My dad's first street legal motorcycle. He'd sold it a long time ago, but my uncle tracked it down and bought it back for my dad's birthday. It's just sitting at the moment but I'm considering taking it on as a restoration project

dude we just got a 100 Trail Boss yellow very clean great patina. needed a carb but someone donated one and we're on our way! You went that clean the hard way. I used naval jelly + muck off and a hose and some elbow grease and 00 steel wool on the metal bits to kill light corrosion.

I'm trying to bring a 1970 Kawasaki 90cc Bushmaster back to life. What do you use use for the trans fluid. You said 10 w 30?

go to the motorcycle/ATC store and get something like honda GN4 . you want non-detergent oil.... but it needs special additives for the wet clutch and gearbox its a kawi.... but i use honda GN4 in my 74 kawi . also use yamalube for the 2 stroke mix . . but use a MOTORCYCLE TRANSMISSION SPECIFIC oil!!! especially with wet clutches . . . modern 10w-30 isnt made for wet clutches (friction modifiers, great for pistons, but makes your clutch slip and burn up)

Hey man! Rad bike! I have the same style bike 1973....it'll kick right to life but then it over revs and I have to kill it. Does that mean my throttle is stuck? Thanks

Hmmm, may be something with your carb or choke

These old two strokes were also notorious for vacuum leaks at areas like crank seals, gaskets, etc. This would allow too much air into the crank creating an over-lean condition causing it to rev out; pretty consistent with what you’re describing. You can check for this with a leak down tester or by plugging the intake and exhaust and introducing about 5 psi to find air leaks.

throttle could be stuck.... take the side cover off the right side (when sitting on bike) thats the carb location . GET AN "IMPACT SCREWDRIVER"..... otherwise you WILL!!! strip out the bolts . might also be a bad case seal (the "block" splits in half on motorcycle engines) . check the choke also (its a small "brass cylinder" on the side of the carb that covers a hole up) my choke has stuck before . its not going to look like a normal choke.... its not a flap over the butterfly (and the bike carb uses a cylinder, not a butterfly) . same ideas apply. LIGHTLY bottom out the flat head screw..... then 1.7 turns out IIRC (different bikes need different settings... but 1 to 2.5 on the air bleed screw is ok) the needle clip should be right in the middle the main jet is not adjustable (the needle controls the flow of the main jet...move needle clip up, needle moves farther into jet, leaner mix) . . . take the side cover off (using impact screwdriver.... like 20 bucks at an auto parts store...napa, autozone, etc) look at carb if throttle cylinder is mostly closed (needs a small gap to idle on) and choke cylinder is completely blocking the hole its a case seal issue.... good time to rebuild the motor but can be fixed with just a gasket (or go poor man and use silicone)

WAIT!! HOLD UP..... simple thing first . where the throttle cable goes into the engine..... right side by your foot their is a little rubber cap.... and should have a "stick" next to it turn the "stick" counter clockwise IIRC . this is the idle adjustment . . . if you pause my video RIGHT when it starts (link is set to open the vid at ~11 sec in) you can see the black cap im talking about.... and the little black button looking "stick" . try turning that like 5 turns.... start it...kill it...5 turns.... ETC ETC ETC see if RPM goes up or down lol . kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqe7p3uhnauGeLc

@@rabermax6371 or the idle speed adjustment is WAY out . you can adjust the idle speed "on the fly" on these bikes... little black rubber "stick" that you can turn
