that's my first car. I bought it of the used car dealership in 85. That car could fly and could move as fast as a corvette on the highway. Everyone moved aside when they saw you coming! Mechanics creamed in their pants when they saw the engine. Beautiful car and great memories in my youth.

It used to be a national pass time to go out for pleasurable drive. Nowadays, it's all about the destination, so cars only have to be functional. This car looks beautiful. sounds sexy and obviously is a pleasure to drive. Love it ! -Cheers

That is a one for one copy of the car my father purchased in 1973.I remember going into the dealer[Brooklyn NY] and my parents placing the order. My father always said that having a green car was bad luck, but for some reason that’s the color he chose. The car was stolen while my mother was working in JFK airport..We got it back minus the tires. My father felt the car was bad luck after that, and sold it to one of my cousins. I don’t know what happened to it after that. This video brings back tons of memories.Thanks for posting.

So nice to see some are still around in this shape. When I was a kid, these were the cars... that's it, no others. They were everywhere. Didn't think about it much back then, but one day they were all but gone. Not this one though... very nice. Today's cars are safe and technologically amazing (and $40,000), but they don't have this kind of flair.

+Jerold Lyons Yup, I also took these cars for granted when I was a kid, 'cause they were everywhere. I always dreamed of something European and exotic then. Now that they have disappeared I do miss them. They had style, they rode soft and comfortable and you'd could identify each brand and model by sight alone. They were also good value for money, being fully loaded with all kinds of features that weren't even available in most European luxury cars at that time. American automobiles of that era could be fully customized with an almost inexhaustible array of exterior and interior colors and materials.

VERY heavy doors. Unfortunately, passengers want to SLAM the doors when closing them. This causes lots of problems with the plastic fasteners that hold the inside door panels. The break off, and cause the door panels to flop around, as well as the panel that contains the window, locks, and seat switch gear. After learning this lesson the hard way, I (sometimes not so gently) reminded passengers to gently pull on the door strap when closing the door. They're like closing a 'fridge door. No need to slam. If the door is moving, it will close all of the way.
@wtfhappened661

Joseph Rogers Yes, very... But that doesn't mean they need to be SLAMMED. (Had similar problems with the interior switch/latch panels in a '71 Town Car...)

Thanks for the reply, I'm watching an old episode of Canon 'A lonely Place to die' and he's driving a 71' silver blue MKIII rather then a MKIV. It's a lovely color but it has a really loud cherry red interior that clashes with the blue so I'm guessing it's a repaint and not an original Lincoln color for that year. I actually prefer the MKIII over the MK4 . My father had a new 71' Baby blue MkIII that we loved but the MkV was a better car then either the MkIII or Mk4. We had a 77' MKV with a 460 that had been de-smoged with a dual exhaust, headers an edelbrock manifold, a holly econo-master carb, re-curved distributor and water injection that was professionally tuned for economy, and it used to get 22-24mpg highway and over 16mpg average and preformed very well. Suspension was also tuned with gas shocks and sway bars and firmer springs and it was an exceptional driver for a big old Lincoln

I bought a '74 MkIV in the UK for 500GBP back in 1985 when I was 19 years old. The brakes existed only in the imagination but the foot operated parking brake did the job mostly. That 460ci big block sounded awesome once I chopped off the stock exhaust and fitted a pair of Cherry Bomb straight-through silencers right underneath the front footwells. The carbon monoxide fumes used to give me a nice rosy red glow to my cheeks after a long journey and the ringing in my ears took a day to go away, but there's no sound on earth that beats the sound of a big V8 singing it's working song. Sadly, at the time I had no idea what 'big end knock' was, but found out the hard way when a piston decided to say 'Hi' to the valves and that was the end of that. Fantastic driving experience though, from the age of the dinosaurs and cheap fuel. Would I have it again today? Absolutely. Could I find somewhere to park it in today's overcrowded UK? Doubtful...

Back in the 70's when I was a kid growing up in North Yorkshire (England) in a small town, 99% of the cars were so lame and dull, you barely noticed them, however someone had one of these in white and it looked AWESOME; unlike anything I had ever seen, it could have come straight out of Hollywood, or belonged to a rock star. Little did I know at the time that the fuel guage needle moved faster than the speedometer, they had the turning circle of an oil tanker, were ridiculously noisy, unreliable and pretty much rusted before your eyes! Didn't stop me loving it though.

@bannol1
@bannol1 9 жыл бұрын
+Eric George There is nothing shocking about these cars. Lincoln was a premium brand and that so many of them are still around attests to their quality. Noisy they certainly weren't. You are not dealing with 4 cylinder lawn mower engine, but a big v8. These cars ride quiet and smooth. Fuel consumption wasn't an issue at the time as gas was cheap and rust was mainly a problem in areas where salt was used to melt snow off the roads. Maybe one day you may get a chance to ride or drive one and then you'll see for yourself how great these cars were. These cars weren't made for European roads or tastes.
@ericgeorge5483
@ericgeorge5483 9 жыл бұрын
bannol1 I see what you are saying and NO, they were definitely not made for over here but put them alongside a quality British car of the time and the Lincoln looks like what it is; badly made crap.
