Wow!! What a machine!! My grandfather owned one of these in that exact same color back in the day. I *so* wish I had talked my family into giving me that car when he passed away. His was very low miles and very original when he died in 1993. He kept that car immaculate. I often wonder about it -- where it is now, and if someone is still caring for it the way he did.

it's not a Cartier edition. All Lincoln's had Cartier clocks, unless it has the Cartier name etched into the opera window glass it is just a regular MkV. It's the wrong color for a Cartier also. 5 mins research on the net would establish what this car is.

I owned a Mark V back in that time period (late 70's), and the automobile being shown above is not a Cartier Mark V. The Cartier edition was beige with red accents. This was I believe, the wedgewood blue luxury group Mark V, not the Cartier. (I should know, I OWNED ONE!)

This was my first car. same color, same interior, year, moon roof etc. Mine was in a lot worse shape with about 175,000 miles little rust on the fenders. I paid a $100 for it. I loved that car!! Had a lot of fun cruising in it. I drove it for about 2 years. It started having a lot of problems that were expensive to fix and being a teenager I didn't have the money. I ended up selling it to the junk yard. What a shame. This was in 92'

+Todd V ....I think you misunderstood my comment....you mention the quadraphonic system, I assume you are talking about the head unit up front in the dash...in that case, you are right that it was an option from the factory (two of my Lincolns had the quad. system)....my comment however, was about the extra equipment installed in the trunk...the cassette changer and the amplifiers. I have been buying Lincolns for the past 40 years, in fact I've been obsessed with them all my adult life...I even have original sales brochures from all the late '70's Lincolns showing what options were available...I know Lincolns like the back of my hand...and I can tell you point blank that the stuff in the trunk was not an option from the factory or even from the dealer...the equipment in the trunk was installed by either a independent car stereo store, or possibly even by the original car owner himself (I know because I always install systems like that in most of my Lincolns)...in fact, if you want proof, view the video above and pause it at 6:36 and you can see a good close up of the cassette changer...now, do a Google "Image" search for "Panasonic cassette RS-296US...you will see the exact same machine, and you will see old advertisements from stereo hi-fi magazines that clearly depict that cassette changer as a home stereo component...it was never meant to go in a car...and if you watch the video closely, you will also see that the cassette unit severely overhangs the wheel well shelf that it's sitting on, and you'll also notice that when he tries to open the top of the cassette changer, he can't open it much at all because the lid hits the edge of the trunk...none of this would be the case if the cassette unit was from the factory or the dealer.......sorry for such a long post, but my point was that the radio head unit in the dash IS original from the factory...but the cassette changer and amplifiers in the trunk were put in later by someone else and that the cassette changer is clearly a "home stereo" piece.

thats not a cartier, I have a 79 Cartier, and it has to say Cartier in the opera windows. You can also see orange peel in the paint. My 79 is truly original, and it doesnt even have any wear on the steering wheel. not even on the woodgrain in the center of the wheel. I always get a kick out of these guys trying to call a mark v a Cartier just because it says Cartier on the Clock. 79 Cartiers didnt come in blue either. I know my Mark fives.

I had a nice 79 mark 5. i drove it from 1988 to about 96 or so. loved that car. 400-2v , 2.47 rear gear, I think. Main bearings started to bring the oil light on at idle. 140,000 miles. Best riding interstate cruiser ever. loved the power wing windows. Also movable/ colapsing front grill.

I’ve never seen multiple amps like that on a stock Mark. It looks like one for each speaker 🔊. What jack nut would wrap the steering wheel with that Walmart special? The engine bay looked great. I would check the suspension it looked low in the rear when he drove it by the camera even with acceleration. I’ve been looking for a 79 for a long time. I was born in real Lincoln era with two Lincoln dealerships family owned. Cartier edition was only all dove gray inside and out. They all had Cartier clocks from 1977 through 2004 which was my last big Lincoln. Folks need to get educated on those gems and stop calling them Cartier because of the clock.

My dad had a 73 Continental, but he always wanted one of these, but my mom wanted a 280ZX, my mom won, so my dad kept his 73, which at the end of the day was not too much different. The Mark cost more and was marketed as a personal car, but at the end of the day it was still a land yacht. I have to admit those land yachts drove smooth, and had lot's of torque, but you were not going to win any races and the body lean was like a ship listing, and you did not want to get into a situation where you would have to stop fast. I admit though that after learning to drive on that 73 Continental, you could drive anything after getting used to it.

That stereo that he pumped up is after-market and while interesting, "back in the day" equipment, it does mean that the originality of this "lowest mileage in the world" vehicle has been compromised. I bought a 1975 Mark IV last year, not as beautiful as this car, but that 7.5 L 385 Ford engine can move it, and heck, who wouldn't want a 4800 lb easy boy chair? My wife likes it too, says it is comfortable. It does drink gas in stop and go traffic, but on the open highway, it gets respectable fuel numbers for what it is.

had a perfect 74,76, mark iv and 77,78,79 mark v and they were so worthless in the 90's. I knew I had awesome overlooked Lincolns. My friends laughed and thought they were hot shots in stupid Nissian z cars. Dime a dozen rattle busters now. Meanwhile my Lincoln's are worth of fortune and finally appreciated for their extreme beauty and on believable comfort and ride. Of course I sold them all back in the nineties. I could shoot myself! They just don't make greatness anymore. It's all one color no vinyl tops to break up the monotony along with any chrome parts to help accents. Even tail lights don't have chrome trim anymore. Everything's just placed in ready to go. They focus on the interior toys,and everything looks like everything else. I am so sick by this video because it's a great car I can't afford it, and I had so many just like it and I sold them. All as perfect. How it hurts my feelings. My Garnet red 1979 Lincoln Mark V with a white top and white trim and a two-tone interior that was burgundy and mauve I sold for $2,300 around 1995. That was its maximum value. Today I don't even want to discuss it.

I don't know what somebody would do with this thing. It would be cool to drive for a week or two, and I won't even talk about the mileage, but cars like this are hard to maneuver, and I hope you have a big garage. I can't see how these are going to be high dollar cars, as even when they were out cars like MBZ 450s and BMW 635s were also available, and the workmanship, quality, design and handling of these did not really compare. They mainly appealed to guys in their 40s and 50s who had never driven a European car, if you really liked Goodfella's, that is kind of what I am talking about.

Matthew Butler Actually, I speak from a little experience. I grew up driving my Dad's 73 Continental, and drove that around until he sold it for an Audi 5000. Also two of my uncle's owned Mark Vs, one had the Cartier edition the other the Bill Blass, spent a quite a few miles in those too.

Let me expand a bit. Believe it or not, I actually have somewhat of a soft spot for these cars. In the very late 1960s to the mid 70s, these were cool. However, by the time the late 70s and early 80s came along, these cars became pass'e almost overnight. I think it had to do with a combination of the low mileage and the superior capabilities and build quality of the higher end German autos. The Mark V was at the end of this era, and was really a hold over. It was running on the old Thunderbird chassis and most of these were sold with the 400 where the Mark IV at least had the 460. The Continental was in a similar situation running on the old LTD frame. At about this time, Ford was also selling a gussied up a Grananda, which itself was a gussied up Maverick and trying to get top dollar for it as the Versailles, a friend of mine's mom had one, which I also drove quite a bit as well (By the way, I know that the Seville was based on the Nova, but GM did a much better job in the execution than Ford did with the Versailles.) Cadillac had at least seen this change coming when they came out with Seville in 75 and had also downsized the full size line in 77. I think that decision served to make that brand relevant today vs. Lincoln which just kind of sank into the abyss.

I feel that you are degrading a great automobile for car enthusiasts who clicked on this video to see the car they love. I have much experience with classic automobiles. Especially the Lincoln Mark V. I currently own a 1977 Lincoln Mark V with the 460 v8. I personally love all cars for what they are. This isn't a racer, and I know and understand that. It is a full sized luxury sedan that drove, rode and handled as such. Don't get me wrong, I love all classics. However, comparing this particular vehicle to smaller sports cars is an injustice to say the least.

I can guarantee you 100% every one of these historical Lincoln's from the 1970s that look this good in the 21st century never seen a winter. because every one of those Lincoln's and Fords of that decade that seen Winters are long gone in the junk yard. I had a chance once to buy a 1978 Mark 5. but when I looked underneath the car the frame was rotted out. General Motors and Ford use bad Steel in them years. But Ford was the worst. Chrysler was the only one that did not have this problem of rotting out from that decade.

Ok that's a 1979! Not a 78/79! But a 79! You know how I know that? Cause my father had them both! While new. Yes he had some amazing cars back in the day. From a 58 Chrysler New York to a 1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe. Then a 1971 Lincoln Coupe to a 1978 Town Car and 1979 Mark V. I know the difference cause the 78 Lincoln had the 460 cid V8 yep a full 7.8 LT! While one year alter the 79's only had the 400 cid 6.9 LT V8, the 460 had 4 brl carb and the 400 a 2brl. Needless to say the 460 had a lot more power at still only 240 hp, but 400 ft lbs tq! while the 400 had under 200 hp and just 350 ft lbs tq! it doesn't have the Cartier logo in the opera Windows nor the insignia on the bottom right of trunk. Cartier edition Lincolns in 1978 only came in tan. as far as I know. I own one. It's my garage queen
