I bought a used Montego after I got out of the service in 78. It was fast (a sleeper) comfortable and a joy to own.

I bought a brand new '76 Mercury Couger, which had claimed the Montego body. I've got a pic somewhere but they were very good cars. It had the 351Windsor engine. Thanks for the memories.

They are nice comfortable cars. I had a 77 T-bird with the 351W back in the day. It wasn't super fast, but it was a nice cruiser.

My grandfather has one of these in red with a white top and white interior with red carpet. He Bought it new in 1973 and traded it for a 1977 LTD 2D. I was young but I remember the car very well.

Back in 85 I bought blue one for $700. 351 cj with a 4 speed. I loved it until the insurance company told me because it had a Q in the vin, it was going to cost me over $1000 a year for insurance. At 23 years old I couldn't justify paying that. So I sold it.

This Montego really pops with the Mercury yellow paint. I see the hood has more gap on one side, but this was how it was back in day. I know of one 1973 Cougar that had a huge run in the paint on the rear valance, and when re restored the car he left that run while he was having some paint touched up. I agree the 351 Cleveland is the big attraction on this car. It looks like it was done right and again the paint work looks smooth.

1973 was my best year as a salesman at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership. I sold 14 Cougars and 26 Montegos, 4Lincolns and five Mercury Marquis Broughams. I also sold 7 Comets and four Mercury Capris. I think maybe I sold 15 or 20 used cars, all makes and models. It was a very good year for autos of almost all makes, I thought. I still have a Marquis Brougham, 2 Cougars and 2 Montegos, one of them a GT.

I had a 1974 montego with a 351 Cleveland motor, and a c-6 auto transmission from 1983-1986. I bought it with 76,000 miles. It needed a transmission rebuild. After that it was a good car with no issues.

Yes I used to have a 1973 Cougar it was a pretty cool car I picked it up from my neighbor and the rear quarter panel had some damage I got it really cheap at that time everything was cheap in the 80s anyway that car was fun putting down straps everywhere. my neighbors hated me. and it also had the 351 Cleveland I love the interior and mine also had the floor shifter and it has a really cool turn signals that car got me in some trouble but it was fun. Keep up with a great videos absolutely love your Channel because you guys ain't afraid to stomp on it if you know what I mean keep up the great videos thank you again.

The last year for the 351 Cleveland was actually 1974, including the CJ version, which was available in Torinos, Montegos, Cougar XR-7s, and the new for '74 Gran Torino Elite. This is a really nice car!
@angelperez7891
@angelperez7891 Жыл бұрын
The Elite was first introduced during 1974 under the Mercury name as the Cougar. Late that same year Ford copied the basic body hardware with the distinctive two-headlamp front end we remember which had a two-tier egg-carton grille, Pontiac Grand-Prix-type headlamp bezels (from the 1971-72 Grand Prix) and modified Torino taillights. The rear quarters had the vertical parallelogram opera "Twindows." That was then launched separately from the Cougar as a Ford to battle the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Cougar and Elite were now built side-by-side. There were also versions of the Gran Torino and Elite (luxury concepts) built on the Pinto platfoem, the Mustang Ii and Mustang Ii Ghia, respectively. With tbe Maverick chassis we got the Granada. The Elite was renamed LTD II during 1977-78 and with the switch to the Fairmont tooling, the Futura.

@@RamblinAround The 429 had a smaller carb and less power. For the time, the 266 or 261 HP net was the strongest engine combination available that year. A 351 HO CJ made 275 HP, but it was only made for Mustangs, and only for a few months before the official 1973 model year. I'm from Australia zoo the Q code engine was 50 to 66 HP stronger than the already strong 216 or 200 HP net 4bbl 2V headed 351C we used until 1985 in deTomasos, Broncos, F trucks and Falcon based sedans till 82. The last Cobra Jet is The Most impressive emissions legal factory small block, a real Big Block slayer. Hold On Tight, the new owner!

This is the rare Sport model which I think few were made. It was a GT without the fastback. I had one bought new in 73 but without the sport gauges. I want to say there maybe less than 50 1973 Sports were made (non fastbacks) maybe less than that. I may be wrong but info i saw was 3 Sport models made in 1973. The Montego GT, Sport and Gran Torino Sport made with gauge package. There were around 4,000 Montego GT made in 73. Mercury continued making the Sport Montego 1975 was the last year the same yr Gran Torino Sport stopped production.

That is a really great car I had one of these once I was out driving in the country back in 1992 and I saw one parked out by a barn so I stopped and asked about it and if they would be interested in selling it and they said sure So I went out and looked at it it had 108,000 miles on it factory air had the console Chrome shafter factory tach and was a 2dr with the 351cleaveland V8 I went back up and talk to the person and said I was interested and how much they wanted for it and they said would $50 be too much I about flipped I said I'll be right back what home and told my dad about it We brought money back for the car a battery some license plates and drove the car home 😎

Nice ride. It's one of several I've been keeping my eye on. I was watching it when listed in PA at Salduttis car corner but could not act during covid as I didn't want to buy it sight unseen. It was listed at $11.5 k down in increments from $16.5 k+ just before it was marked sold and showed up at your dealership at 23.5 k. It will be interesting to see if you can move it at that price. Good luck.
