This is the 10/6/1973 Michigan State at Notre Dame game. There have been a few comments about unifrom combinations that were used in these vintage games. Here's another to contemplate. A shout out to Sparty and the Califlower Helmet. The logo was so large and white that the white against the green background the logo resembled a giant califlower. About the game The Irish won the national championship this year. MSU wasn't the same team they were in the mid 60's but they were no easy out either. This one went down to the wire. Ray Scott subbed in for Lindsay Nelson with Paul Hornung. This isn't the best quality but it is very early ESPN with no scroll or watermark. I claim no rights.

This was the first game I remember attending. I was 10 years old and was with my 75-year-old Irish grandmother.

Other than the Sugar Bowl win over Alabama, this was the closest game ND had all year. ND averaged 350.2 rushing yards per game in '73. Ara mentioned once that he talked to Delaware coach Tubby Raymond before the season about his philosophies on the Wing-T. Future ND coach Ty Willingham, who was recruited as a QB, was the holder for placekicks.

I know the game is from 1973, but this looks like early espn programming circa 1982. That's cool they were doing throw back games back then. Around the 47:00 mark

I'm pretty sure ESPN was a Pioneer among Cable TV Sports Networks when it came to airing old-school sporting events, something it proved beyond a reasonable doubt when they introduced Classic Sports Network (later known as ESPN Classic) in the Mid-1990s.

1973 Notre Dame was quite a team. So was Alabama. Still Ohio State and Michigan could have been National Champions instead

Bo maintained, "We was robbed!" after Dennis Franklin suffered a shoulder separation in the OSU-Michigan game. But his shoulder mended quickly, so much so that he would have been ready to go had Michigan gotten the nod to go to the Rose Bowl.

@8avexp in a just world 🌎 Michigan would have been National Champions based on regular season and Ohio State National Champions after Bowls. Out of 73, 74 and 85 Michigan should have won at least once. Ohio State could have won 61 and 70, also
