This television commercial for Old Home Bread is narrated by singer C. W. McCall (the nom de chanteur for Bill Fries). While working as a creative director for the advertising agency Bozell & Jacobs, Fries created this advertising campaign for Metz Baking Company’s Old Home Bread in 1973. Bert Rodriguez’s company Visual Presentations, based in Dallas, produced the series, with Rodriguez himself acting as director. The campaign features a truck driver named C. W. McCall, played by Dallas actor Jim Finlayson, and a waitress named Mavis Davis, played by Dallas actress Jean McBride Capps. Several of the commercials from the series won Clio Awards, the advertising industry’s equivalent of an Emmy or Academy Award. This particular advertisement promotes Old Home Stone-Ground Whole Wheat.

One of my favorite commercials. Tells a fun story in 60 seconds. Makes me want to go to that cafe and have what C.W.'s having- I mean the chili and eggs on toast.

It was simpler because you were young with no responsibilities. It wasn’t simple for a guy in his 40s trucking Old Home bread through snow.

From this ad sprang the song "Convoy." From that song sprang the entire American Gramophone Record company, which has sold tens of millions of records, most notably the "Fresh Aire" series and the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas albums.

Who played C W in these ads? The actor looks like a guy who did bank commercials in Baton Rouge. Bloopers and Practical Jokes showed several of these ads. Before Convoy, there was a song about the cafe. He took Mavis and her mother to see True Grit.
