Just think this was one year before the greatest draft in NFL history.

To think the Steel Curtain was as awesome as this BEFORE Jack Lambert arrives the following year.

they just kept drafting so many great linebackers AND receivers dennis winston robin cole soon after lambert... receivers theo bell jim smith after shanklin left and couple yrs later frank lewis left jack ham was considered the proto typical (modern) all pro linebacker and maybe best ever until lawrence taylor came to the giants in 1981 still the best team i ever saw; didnt see the packers in the 1960s

For the Steelers it was the year of Shanklin scoring 10 TDs. His career was over in Pittsburgh in 1974. For many players NFL stands for Not For Long.

i actually REMEMBER that monday night game; it was a cruel trick... actually started making the oilers believe they were as good as the steelers ... steelers blitzed em in the playoffs 33- 10

The Steelers were 8-1 then lost 3 games in a row. Finally, got clobbered by the Raiders in the AFC playoffs. Still it was the year of the Dolphins again.

Statistically the 73 Steelers had the best pass defense of the modern era allowing an opposing QB rating of 33. Injuries and inability to score in the red zone doomed this team.

Back in the mid 70's I had a best buddy who loved the Steelers. I myself was a Packers fan first, but since we weren't exactly winning, um ever....lol I had other teams I liked. Heck I was 7-10 years old then. I had the attention span of a gnat. Shhh don't tell anyone about this but I actually was a Vikings fan in the mid 70's. I loved Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Sammy White, and the Purple People Eaters defense! Also Bud Grant had a calm demeanor much like my Grandpa. So I guess I liked them for a kind of similarity that I recognized? Anyway the Vikings and the Steelers met in the 🏈🏉Super🏈Bowl🏉🏈 and the Steelers🏆🏆won the🏆Championship!🏆🏆 I was a kid and I was mad. But looking back at those teams, those years, and the brutal games these teams played, I'm in awe of their ability to play after clotheslines, spears, brutal hits, blindsided shots, and so many other sickening hits. Football was pure power back then. There was juking and jiving. Spin moves and hurdles, but the sheer power and bone crushing hits made this football the most amazing game ever seen. The Steelers had a defense that was epic to say the least. The Vikings had the Purple People Eaters defense, but the Steelers? They ate the Purple People Eaters whole. Terry Bradshaw was a young QB but already he showed poise, and precision under pressure. With some luck as well. But Lynn Swann and company were top of the line receivers, add Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier and you had a potential opportunity for a powerful powerhouse franchise for Years, and they were just that! The 70's Steelers? They were iconic, incredible, POWERFUL, extremely talented, a bit lucky, but they were a force! Looking backwards in ⏲⏳time🕐⏲ the Steelers are a great dynasty that deserves RESPECT! There are teams I dislike, the Raiders for example. Especially the 70's Raiders, however I respect their determination and dedication to their coach John Madden and the game of 🏈🏉Football🏉🏈 they were a good/great team albeit a cheap and sometimes crooked team, and hypocritical as well. The Raiders broke every rule in the NFL, however IF ANYONE even bent a rule against them Al Davis was on the phone to the commissioner crying they cheated, whaaah whaah! LOL. But they won 🏆 so? I've become a fan of the Steelers, or the classic retro team to be precise. The 70's Steelers were a FUN TEAM TO WATCH! Thanks for this look back into the team that took over the title or franchise title after the Packers dropped after the second🏈Super 🏈 🏈Bowl.🏈 They were also in a HUGE Rivalry with the 🤠⭐Dallas⭐🤠 🤠⭐Cowboys.⭐🤠 The ♦️🔷️🔶️Pittsburgh🔶️🔷️♦️ Steelers♦️🔷️🔶️ versus the 🤠Dallas🤠 ⭐⭐Cowboys⭐⭐became a legendary Rivalry. These were the BEST OF THE BEST! It was fun to watch! So again thank you! God Bless you! And take care of yourself! Be safe!

70s were a rough era, but a lot had to do with DB's cheap shots on defenseless WRs. Raiders had some punk DBs, who must have been protected by the goon effect. How does Joe Green not put Atkinson in his place, after laying out Swann? Why was all this accepted?
