In 1975, I bought a '73 Trans Am 455 Super Duty, white with a blue bird on the hood and red interior. I believe she had about 8400 or so on the clock. Had an automatic, air, and power windows. Also had 4 completely bald tires, with the cords showing in the centers. I put new FireStone Wide Oval 60's on it and it was, to this day, the quickest & fastest street car I EVER drove. Sold it for a song in the gas shortage; bought a VW Beetle. Missed that car ever since. Thanks for the memory!!!

The best engine from Pontiac to be the best performer on UNLEADED FUEL. (premium). No 455CID of that era could touch it. My army buddy had 1. His insurance payments were equal to the car notes. But,it was worth it. .. the last of the SUPER DUTYS. My dad had a BUICK RIVIERA G.S (73) I,had access to. Of course the S.D. would take off on me but @ high speed you can see him heavy concentration, while I,drove w/the gangsta lean,1 hand on the wheel, sunroof open & 4 more people in the car having conversations,etc. 100mph on both cars were totally different experiences. It was fun in the TRANS-AM. YOU drove it. The BUICK drove itself.

Personally, for me, the introduction of "colors", in 73, and the hood bird is what sold me on the 73. The Lucern blue was OK, but that bird was just "wild". (At the time) Who would've thought it would've been beaten to death over the rest of the decade. I like the fact this car was converted to stick shift, with an increase in compression. Bet the car flat out hauls. Too bad about the A/C. Never was a fan on performance cars. Nice car. Thanks for posting.

There's a huge difference between a 20 mile original owner car like this and a 116k mile one. Both are respectable but I have a lot more respect for the guy who drove it and enjoyed it and loved it the way it was meant to be when it left the factory. It was built for tearing up the streets not being cryofreezed in a heated garage somewhere. This bird hit the jackpot of owners!
@jennydager8 жыл бұрын
You are so right, Evan. Thank you for the kind words. My entire family has enjoyed that car. Some people have the appreciation of simply hearing him fire it up. What most people don't know is that it also one of the most documented car on earth. Ha, ha- you would have to know my Dad. He has the leather tags from his Levi jeans wearing carrier. Say no more. Everything that has ever been done to this car, from normal maintenance to modifications, is documented. I have seen the binders and they are beyond college binders and there are four. This is most definitely not because it 'needed' work- it's only that...it's just my Dad. He's the original owner and I think it's all pretty rad.

I bought a new Trans Am in 1973 but at 19 years old, my father wouldn't let me order the Super Duty. The basic 455 was a pretty choked down engine IMO. I hated that huge bird but you could also get a small one just on the nose of the car so I got that one. I always preferred the stripe they had up through 1972. Tony said at the time that only 110 (75 actually) we're made with the combo of a 455 SD & 4 spd manual. & this was white with the blue bird on the hood, with only 36,000 miles on it!
