I owned this car for several years in the mid 2000's. I bought it from a gentleman in Oregon and had it shipped to L.A. immediately. Apparently the car had been sitting dormant for years and I had to do a lot of minor work to get it roadworthy. I proceeded to drive it quite often including on a 3 day car rally in Pebble Beach. Unfortunately the motor started acting up and smoking a little so around 2007 I had the motor completely rebuilt by a renowned Porsche mechanic in So-Cal. Drove it infrequently for a while and unwisely sold it. I can attest to the cars authenticity and quality. It was an absolute joy to drive! Congrat's to the new owner. She is a great driver now!

This pleases me greatly to hear that it's going to be used and shown to the public, meaning Porsches are meant to be driven! Bravo!

In the mid eighties a friend of mine and I seriously contemplated going halfsies on one we saw at the Monterey Vintage races. They were asking $25K.

As a young teenager I was intrigued by the 911 but it seemed too thin in the rear. When the Carrera was introduced with the flared rear fenders, the proportions were finally correct. Simply perfect.

I was SUPER Lucky in 1981 to be able to drive a Series-2 Light Weight. I knew a couple of girls that had money and were into cars. The same day Veronica had the RS delivered... it was red on white.....Loraine had a 1968 GT 500 KR delivered. If memory serves, Veronicas 2.7 RS came from France and it already needed engine and clutch work. The Stable, in San Francisco, went through the motor and tranny to make sure it was all back to normal. They also installed new shocks and replaces a broken sway bar. That 1973 RS is still THE Best car i have ever had the pleasure of driving. I wish she still owned it. :) These things must be worth 1 Million at least now..???

Nice video! We had several '73RS models in Connecticut Valley Regoin PCA in the 80s, most of them went to every DE at Lime Rock and a few were club raced. Even a 911SC/RS or two were raced. I autocrossed against Jim in that car many times, had good competition with my '72S Targa. I think even after the restoration, in which he replaced or restored EVERY nut and bolt using a parts manual, he was still autocrossing and tracking it, till he realized it was not a very good idea. ;)

Excellent video - thank you! It has been said “Porsche, there is no substitute”. I think it should also be said “lightweight, there is no substitute”. I have a well sorted 914 with an ‘85 Carrera engine, 915 gearbox, front oil cooler and upgraded suspension & brakes. I’m also fortunate to own a resto-modded 964 ( with too many mods to list here). The 914 weighs ~ 2,000lbs and the 964 weighs 3,000lbs. As modified, the power to weight ratios in each car are close. Both cars are analog driver’s cars, but the experiences they offer are quite different. The 914 is agile and can dart about if asked, like a go kart. The 964 is wonderfully planted in corners and very predictable. Their rates of acceleration are similar (the 964 has close ratio gearing), but the acceleration in the 914 feels more exhilarating. Lightness certainly brings something special to the table. The lightness of the 2.7 RS must create an absolutely wonderful driving experience!

Although I personally own a couple of newer generation Porsches (both 997 generation) I just want to say that I do hope to have a 914 or 964 in the future. I'd say a 914 is more likely at this point seeing how robust 964 pricing has become, but I love older and lighter models very much. There is something special about lightweight and simple cars, and so I think a 914 with a mid 80s flat-6 sounds like quite the thrilling combination indeed.

@@stevetheodore_specialtycars 914s with stock engines, be they 4 or 6 cylinder handle wonderfully, but just don’t have the horsepower to be thrilling (my first 914 was a 1.7L). If you’re thinking to have a 914, you might want to think about a 911 engine swap and front oil cooler in your decision process.

From '79 to '87 I was the steward of #0058, a first series LWT. Early in that period it was restored in Pfaffenhausen (receiving a new P/C set that slightly increased compression and resulted in 225HP). The Air Freight Bill of Lading to Atlanta recorded the weight as 902KG. I put 50K delightful miles on the car using it as a Daily Driver including two Coast-to-Coast trips. The last I heard it was living somewhere on the East Coast. It presently serves as the spiritual touchstone in an ongoing mass reduction project for my '18 Carrera T. The Carrera RS exemplifies the concept of "Greater than the sum of its parts".

@@shaunybenso Thus far, rear seats and seatbelts out/replaced by lightweight package shelf, lightweight exhaust(Sharkwerks), LiPO4 battery(AntiGravity), and titanium lug bolts. Future items: removal of front air vanes and actuators, replacement of rear wing and mechanism with fixed rear spoiler/intercooler cooling air intake, removal of passenger sunvisor and lightweight wheels (Litespeed or Apex). Have mounted an extended 911R rear undertray diffuser in anticipation of rear wing removal.

Thank you PCA. Great car with the rare Belgium Glaverbel glass. For even more added lightness, you can remove the door caps, shifter gaiter, front hood latch, sun visors, and the new owner should then diet down to 60kgs. :)

Please keep the volume on the commentary and the sound tracks consistent. It is very annoying to have to adjust the volume up to hear the speaker and down when the sound tracks blast in your ears.

Too bad all of these cars are virtually museum pieces now that never see the light of day. I can remember the day that you would see 70’s 911’s on the road being enjoyed. Now I get excited to see a 996 on the road.

I have a 74 Carrera Targa 2.7. Research tells me the US cars had to meet emissions but the Euro cars motors are the same as the 73RS. If this is true what can I do to my motor to turn it into the 73RS motor?
