Jr. had that car dialed in and Cale was up on that wheel. They won three cup titles in row. Impressive.

Notice the announcer calls all Chevys Monte Carlos. Also, Bobby Allison's car is both a '72 MC and later a ' 73 Malibu. They used old footage to show some action.

Also, 25-Thomas is seen at 9:37, 31-Vandiver at 9:38 and 57-Boggs at 9:39, none of whom were entered, 64-Langley car is blue at 9:19 but red at 9:44, and 45-Seifert is two-tone blue at 9:41 but mostly white at 9:42 - all of which matches the '72 Spring race per racing-reference.

I liked Cale as a kid. Then I like Dale Sr. and Kyle Petty then Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart. also Martin Truex Jr. and Matt Kenseth. Other series I always liked Ron Hornaday Jr. and Elliot Sadler. I know nobody cares but just commenting. I feel like Nascar has just about run it's course. I love all racing. I've raced both Dwarf cars on dirt and Legends on asphalt and really enjoyed my time in the driver's seat and that gave me respect for all race car drivers.

Naw, some care bud. I'm right there with ya on loving all racing! When you have actually competed behind the wheel of a racecar-motorcycle-go-kart-dune buggy, hell, whatever, you view racing differently than the average fan, cause you completely understand what you're looking at & how it actually works 👍 I'm a Petty fan at my core & have been since I was 5yrs old (58 now) but I also rooted hard for Bobby Unser, Mario-Michael & Marco after him in Indycar. Also a huge Snake fan in Dragracing, then Larry Dixon & Ron Capps after Snake retired. Steve Kinser in the Outlaws series & The Great Kenny Roberts in the Moto GP bikes back in the day. I'm an old Go-kart racer myself, raced against the likes of Lake Speed, Scott Pruitt, Mark Dizmore, Paul Tracy & other's, even managed to Win The Nationals in 85. My long winded point is SOME DO CARE! 🏁🏆 💪🤠👍

Car #31 Jim Vandiver was seen in the footage, but was not in this particular race adding credence to the comment about footage from a previous race. I'm not sure why Bud Lindeman of Car and Track let this happen. For the most part, his production of racing events was impeccable.

Yep. I also saw JD McDuffie in one of those blurs you’re noting here in the #70

Yes Bud, Cale ended the race an hour early, 2 week's late, right on time! 😂 Every old race fan owe's a debt of gratitude to Ol' Bud. His many tv show's like this one, were many time's the only way folk's outside the South Eastern part of the Country got any information on Cup race's 😉👍

Cale dominated! Jr. Had his secret set up. Jet fuel ⛽️ and moonshine. A mechanical genius! Announcer says that Cale was driving a Monte Carlo . Cale was driving a ss Chevy Chevelle Laguna. My dad had a 73 ss a very rare car. It had those big 5 mph bumpers that the government required.

Is there a catch fence in front of the grandstands? I sure as hell don't see one.
@dragracer1957034 жыл бұрын
There is a 12 foot fence, but it was black to dark gray in color. There was an opening under the flag stand where you could go into the pits after the race.

Is this the only time that someone led a Cup race wire to wire from the pole?
@STP43FAN18 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Kernich No - Cale did it at Nashville in 1978 and Jeff Burton did it at New Hampshire in 2000.

Cal won by 2 laps over Petty. Bobby Allison 3rd, 5 laps back, Marcis and Parsons 4th and 5th, a mere 16 laps behind. Cale lapped everyone else 1 out of every 5-6 laps. Yawn.
