Thanks for the video. I’m born and raised Calgarian and I loved these videos. It would have been been a great time to be an adult. I was born in 1974

I lived in Calgary from 1978 to 1988 - I went to the Stampede every year! I loved Calgary in those days. Sadly an ill mother made me have to return to southern Ontario. Several years ago I moved to Kelowna BC and I now visit Calgary a couple of times a year! Peace

Brought a smile to my face to see the tower needle. Towers holding up better than I am.

What Calgary once was in this era will be a true treasure in my memory. What it has become brings a tear to my eyes, how I miss what we once had.

Thank you and I'm honoured. I enjoy producing these projects. I love your content as well. I'd love to collaborate with CTV (CFCN) on that amazing late 70s footage. I suspect there is more.

Thanks! That was fun. I would have been in grade 8. Back then at the Stampede there was an area called Flare Square. You could wander around and look at free displays and that year it was dedicated to the RCMP. I was in a room and suddenly everyone was moved to the edges and the middle of the room was roped off and then Queen Elizabeth wandered through.

I was 18 in 1973. That was when the guy's hair was longer and the girl's dresses were shorter. LOL

That shot down 7th Avenue SW has changed considerably thanks to the C-Train. Also easy to notice where the filmmaker was able to film that shot, the skywalk from The Bay to their parking garage. Also noticed the rotating Renfrew Furs sign where the 58 storey Telus Sky building sits today.

Great shots of the city before it went to hell. After the population hit 750K it was all downhill

The same thing that happens to every place that gets too big. Growing up here (born the year this film was shot) it felt like a small town. Now it just feels busy and big.

I love that shot of 7th Ave! I remember cutting class at CHHS and going to the Calgarian on draft day. $.25 glass of draft and strippers! What more could a teenage boy want?

These videos bring me sadness and joy. Joy; because the prices were right, people were sane, life was good, cars were awesome, women were women and most days thoughts were probably "what am I going to do on the weekend". Sadness; Prices are not right, people...well..., cars are still awesome, well..some are, women are well...somewhat women, most dress like guys now and thoughts are "what the heck is going to cost me more tomorrow and what do I have to get rid of because I can't afford it now". I want the OP to know that I still really appreciate these videos, even with the craziness of today, it's so grounding to know it wasn't always like this. Thanks!!

Royal American Shows with their roaring, revving gas engines powering the rides. I remember that sound and the creepy carnies and gore shows. Good times lol. No footage of the famed RCMP Musical Ride? I was there and saw it, pretty impressive. I think the year after was Salute to Aviation, with a small air show right over the infield! I remember Art Scholl (and his dog, Aileron) doing aerobatics, as well as a wingwalker - female iirc.

So depressing seeing what we once had. Calgary now feels like a noisy, unsafe and messy middle eastern bizarre.

That purse of 12.900 and some dollars would buy a Haysboro 3 bedroom bungalow in 1960 at PIT payments of 90 per month for 25 years at 6 percent interest!
