My Dad and I went to see Utd away at Cardiff a few weeks after this game . They won 1-0. Gerry Daly penalty. I was 14. Followed Utd since 1968.

First game of the season in which I went to the most games I ever attended as a lifelong Man U supporter, through thick and thin. Didn't go to this one however (can't remember why) but United got off to a flying start with this away win and didn't look back. This was the season where United at away games had more supporters in the ground than the home team!

They should have kept division one, teeshirts always look good, remember my father when he was proud millwall made it to the first division. On his back it said Millwall DIV1. Being West ham fans we all had a good chuckle at that.

McDougall, Boyer, Powell, Machin....John Bond's Norwich were largely Bournemouth Old Boys in this period, weren't they?

Bad old days of hooting noises when the only coloured player got the ball.

There is a hell of a lot to miss about 1970's football, but I was a teenage football fan back in those days and regularly finding myself surrounded by idiotic men making monkey noises when black players were on the ball is certainly not one of them.

I was at that game, in the days before crowd segregation, and we were decidedly outnumbered by Manchester United supporters in the old Southbank. The crowd were as noisy and partisan as they are nowadays, but I do not recall any racial abuse, or indeed insults of any kind at that game (and rarely at all at Orient). Bobby Fisher was , deservedly, a very popular player with the Orient fans, and was a stalwart at right back for nearly ten years, and Rikki Hepplettote , as captain was a key player in George Petchey's team , which remains in my opinion. the best team we had in the last fifty or sixty years

Brian Moore's jacket is as equally horrendous as Willie Morgan's collar.

" you can't really call them supporters " I think you will find United fans turn up and pay the money which supports the club, win or lose, they are the best fans in the world

I was there and as always the police over react great times the so called supporters of today seem to get kicks out of slagging off about disasters the game is no longer enjoyable to watch.

As a Man Utd fan those times were the beginning of the the great concern at crowd violence, regular pitch invasions etc. Brian Moore was just reflecting national mood and Willie was even more condemnatory.

There are many so-called supporters who turn up for matches with the sole intention of causing trouble. Remember the trouble that Millwall and Leeds fans used to cause?
