Our next door neighbor had a burgundy talisman and it was so beautiful he had the leather interior and from what I was told that is extremely rare when I saw a regular Fleetwood I was shocked to see the interior I thought it was a plain Jane Fleetwood never saw another interior like that real impressive and I was 17 at the time

I have owned a '74 Sable black, with Gold interior(mustard color) for 38 years , since it was 9 years old. It has EVERY option bar one fitted, No sunroof, like me its first owner hated a sunroof so he did not order one . However he did order GM's fantastic new airbags, the "Air Cushion Restraint System" ACRS , also ordered was the great traction control & ABS brake system, plus other rarities GM's Sentinel Security anti theft system, the Blaupunkt Office pack (in pre mobile phone days, basically an office UHF 2 way radio base with in car receiver unit which also records messages & all for free) . Mine is an export spec, high altitude car, ordered new from the local Opel dealership in Osnabruck Germany as a RHD car, GM Holden Australia received part completed Caddy's then finished them as factory RHD cars, so it was sent to Australia for this, the shipped to GM's export centre in New York with 59 aussie kilometres on it , used for a holiday in the USA by its new German owner Maurice Ulyatt, returned to the export centre 6 weeks later , shipped to Germany for 4 years , then as Maurice was retiring to Sydney, Australia the RHD car was shipped to Sydney where I bought it in 1983 with 102,700k's on the odometre as Maurice had a stroke & was incapable of driving it. Now in 2021 it has 706,000 kilometres on it. Paid for by the company I ran, it has received aircraft quality servicing, fortnightly, it looks & drives like new, there are photos of it on the internet via the Shannons Insurance club website, it wears NSW licence/rego of BL-499, additionally when ordered it was delete script/badges, delete opera lamps. This makes the car very discrete, subtle with just the Cadillac shields, no one knows what it is. Who needs a modern car when you have one of these to use the seats are like thrones , super comfy. After 10 years of use , I was SO IMPRESSED , I bought a second one in Cotillion white , with a "green-ice" interior an ultra pale, pale metallic green , it really is "green-ice" in color

The rarest 74 with the earthtone Medici velour. Only 74s had it AND the rear divider console. Optional leather would make it a serious collector car.

Cadillac 74... more than ever america's number one luxury car!
@BigSCTVfan11 жыл бұрын
This is what a real luxury car looks like. Compare this video with Motorweek's road test of the 2013 Cadillac ATS and you'll see that these days people have lost touch on what a luxury car should be like. They make them too sporty these days. I don't want a sports car, I want a luxury car. Luxury cars should be elegant like this one, not sporty. There's no elegance in sporty. The elegance is missing from modern luxury vehicles, and it seems I'm the only one that cares.

Beautiful cars. I ordered one new in July of '73 (when dealers got their pre orders sent in for September unveiling). I ordered everything I could, but because I ordered the "air cushion restraint system" I could also not order a sun roof. I always loved big cars and this was a true ocean liner. It caused quite a stir when I showed up at college with it. I would take 3 guys home on breaks and even had desperate guys offer to ride in the trunk (which I would not do). Sadly my father got t-boned 4 years later by a cement mixer truck and it was totaled and the insurance company for the trucking firm refused to find another one and I had to settle for a very small cash settlement and finally located another one but it did not have the air bags. I kept that one for about 15 years and sold it. Sigh.

@colintechnics There may be an 8 track tape player. I had a 1975 and 1976 Coupe DeVille and they both had tape players but, you couldn't tell by looking at it as you pushed the tape in where the radio interface was. I believe it came standard on the Talisman.

This is the reason so few Talismans were sold.

Leather was an ULTRA rare option but, it was available. More than one was made but, there weren't many ordered with leather.
@colintechnics13 жыл бұрын
that thing is awesome- one feature I rarely notice on the talisman's is sunroofs (but in 1974 that would be understandable) also noticed that thermo drivers mirror- another feature that isn't on all talismans btw do you think that a leather talisman was ever offered? I don't think that velour interior could be replicated with leather from the factory

Leather was offered (for $1000 I believe) and only a SMALL HANDFULL were so equipped.

yessssiirrreeee, AN AWESOME CAR. If only these land-yauchts had a sensible engine alternative. I love those V8 motors, but they do DRINK the gas. Hey, didn't Neil Young put an electric motor in a '59 Continental ? I remember seeing him interviewed by (??someone or other)-and he said he planned to do this.

@hugglescake with all do respect,.. that claim has been made only once by an obscure non cadillac reference book if you look at 1974 cadillac brochures, there is no mention of this leather interior, secondly a 3k upgrade for an interior package isnt that expensive (ever look at a price of a mercedes/audi/BMW/cadillac etc- there are many 3k upgrades) this leaves me to come to a logical conclusion they never existed
@paulbedford72606 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to tell you the leather interior DID exist. They are SUPER rare. There's a Chesterfield Brown '74 Talisman and a champagne coloured (sorry can't give the colour's name) one, BOTH with a light tan/beige leather interior. I agree there's no mention of them in either the '74 Cadillac brochure or the merchandising guide. However, Talisman interior codes began with a 5 and the leather Talisman interior code I've witnessed had a unique 5XX number. Been with Cadillac over 45 years. I know a number of people who worked at Cadillac and they agree, they are rare and oddly undocumented. I have found other, custom work on Cadillacs that was undocumented. These cars are starting to climb in value I think. Time the world understood how fabulous 1970's Cadillacs were.
@dmcnamara98595 жыл бұрын
Paul Bedford: Could it possibly the Maize Leather you are speaking of that came equipped in my 74 Coupe Deville?....what makes mine even more peculiar...it was special-ordered with "all leather" surfaces.....the 3-Part dash,door panels,rear quarters...everything is glued,stitched,molded in leather in lieu of the Standard soft touch vinyl. Only way I could identify my interior is by de-coding the body-tag and then looking it up on GM's Cadillac Heritage site. Back then (for the folks that are not aware);any Retail buyer could sit down with his Dealer and Custom-Order the "car of their dreams"...which in many circumstances, the Cadillac Field/Corporate Reps would have to sign-off on these "one-off" Cadillacs....which typically took 2-3 months to orchestrate and then be sent to the Dealer or be picked-up at the Factory in Detroit.

Leather was available but, it was ULTRA rare. I have only seen it once in my life. I have one such car bookmarked. There is a man in New York who is selling a 1974 Talisman with leather. He doesn't have any idea of what he has and I didn't tell him either. I plan on buying it after I get some of my credit card debt down. He is only asking $12,000.00 for it.
@waynejohnson13044 жыл бұрын
@@dmcnamara9859 Leather was available in the style of the this Taliman's interior in the video. It was exceedingly rare though. It was seldom ordered. I have pictures of one such car.
@colintechnics12 жыл бұрын
@hugglescake where have you read that? I agree with you nevertheless but it would be nice to read something that confirms this fact to stop the endless speculation that goes on its doesn't make sense for leather to have been a factory option and only have one built, more would have been produced

Sadly, cars like this is why the US lost so much of the luxury market to Mercedes, BMW and Lexus. Fake wood, lots of plastic, soft seats, bad handling, poor body fit, terrible gas mileage. Imperial disappeared and Caddy and Lincoln struggle to hang on.
