I was 9 when I went to this race. Still remember my favorite boats being the Pay n Pack & Atlas Van Lines. We moved to the Tri-Cities & was lucky to see all of the Columbia cup races in person through 1996. Awesome racing!

The very first race I ever saw at the age of ten. The Winged Wonder is still my favorite all-time favorite.

I remember hearing the Thunder Boats from North Seattle when I was a kid. The Pak is my favorite boat of all time.

I enjoyed watching that a lot.. that Pay N Pak is my favorite hydroplane of all time.. I went to see it refurbished at the Hydroplane Museum in Kent Washington a few years back.. it is still a beautiful and fast boat.. I went to every hydroplane race on the Detroit River from 1970 until 2018.. also went to 2 in Madison Indiana and 1 in Owensboro Kentucky

Ray McMakin...was the perfect commentator for the 1970s,,,,fueled by enthusiasm, as well as cocaine!. Which is why his partying ways eventually led to his parking ways with KING TV.
