I was there for this. I lived in LA, fresh out of high school and worked in the parts dept of Vasek Polak on PCH in Hermosa Beach. I drove a shitload of brand new 911s all over LA. Hung out in the pits for the CanAm main event, camped in the infield. It was like a major rock concert event. My Dad was a Porsche owner since I was too young to know ('56 Speedster, 60 Super 1600) and he took me to Riverside, Willow Springs, rallyes, SCCA events, car shows, NHRA Winter Nat'ls...Southern California was an amazing pace to grow up for motorsports

David Pearson is one of the best drivers to ever wheel a car. The Silver Fox was fast in any car he got in. I was fortunate enough to see him race several times. Would love to see the IROC series come back. Thanks for the upload. Brings back memories for an old race car driver and fan like myself.

I have been waiting for so long to relive this moment. The best IROC year ever, the first. I was 9 years old and already in love with the 911 and reading about lift throttle oversteer. Never owned a 911 yet but I practiced in my BMWs good old-fashioned semi-trailing arms at the limit will definitely mimic The Deal. LOL.
@maxmulsanne70542 жыл бұрын
_The Deal_ is right! I didn't get bit by the racing bug until the late 1970s. After that it was on. Along with my high-octane-fuel raged, teenage hormones, I took my 1975 Fiat X-1/9 on a local winding road that had a couple of hairpins and blasted away (uphill with a mild motor = less chance of getting into trouble real fast.. lol). Good times. The Deal.

He still is one of the Greats. Clark, Villeneuve and Senna never drove in the rain _AND_ fog - *Nürburgring 1968.* A shout-out should be mentioned for *Pedro Rodriquez* too, since rain at the Nürburgring & Zandvoort that year gave him a chance to prove his skills in that cruddy BRM he was stuck with.

I think weight transfer caught Emmo. He jammed on the brakes, weight transferred to the front, the rears got light, no traction for braking, around he goes! Loved how Pearson let him crash out of the way and Peason calmly motors off into 2nd place. The Silver Fox indeed.

I bet the NASCAR drivers were having more fun than the rest because of how differently the 911s drive and handle compared to their usual Torinos, Chargers, Road Runners, etc. Also, maybe this is just me but I was thinking that since NASCAR drivers are more used to making contact with one another, I assume they'd be more likely to push their respective cars just a wee bit more than the F1, Indy, or even sportscar drivers who are more disciplined and reserved with overtaking rivals.

He worked for nbc & CBS sports. They covered nascar races. Keith Jackson is the voice of Dale Earnhardts famous "pass in the grass" that really wasn't a pass. But nevertheless, Keith was the man at Charlotte in 87. I've heard him commentate with Donnie Allison & Jackie for nascar throughout the 80s

@bam_henry Жыл бұрын
Real shame that there was not enough money to keep racing with the 911s. Those cars are the perfect tool to determine whether and how skilled a racing driver is. I feel that when they switched to Camaros, it just became a side quest for veteran and up-and-coming oval racers hailing from NASCAR and Indycar racing, hence the transition from a mix of road courses and banked ovals to exclusively running on ovals like Daytona and Charlotte.
