I miss Riverside so much. Got to race there in the 1980s but earlier I saw Parnelli Jones win the Trans-Am championship for Ford in 1970 and Peter Revson clinch the Can-Am championship in 1971. You have no idea just how fast this track was until you actually watched them race there in person

I was lucky enough to have gone a few times, and was at this event at 8 years old. Got Petty's autograph before the race. Riverside was ELECTRIC! No way to describe how awesome it was.

I was a Cal Club SCCA corner worker from '79 - '82. Started going there as a kid. Used to go there every January to watch the 1st NASCAR race of the year.

It was an extremely racist decision from the fascist Americans! They thought about a way to put an American on the first place and that’s what they came up with. No driver should’ve started! Unfortunately all the Americans were as racist back then..

and after 50 years since this took place, what would happen right now if you take 12 of the greatest drivers right now, who would you think would win.

It would depend in the cars used. But I’d give Max Verstappen the advantage. He does a lot of sim racing in various cars; F1, GT3, WEC, Miatas, etc.

Why the quotes around the race distance? Daytona "500", Indy "500", it's so weird!
@tsmcbride06 Жыл бұрын
Why weird ? It told you what city/state it was held in and how many miles. Now tracks are corporate named and if you're not up to speed, you don't know where they are racing.
@stillious Жыл бұрын
@@tsmcbride06 He's asking why the miles are in quotes, which is weird. Nothing to do with the city, state or any of the other junk you were blathering on about.

Some tracks have multiple events and the races are different lengths, hence, 300, 400, 500 miles

No Mario Andretti?? And, ya, Hulme and Fittapaldi were the only international guys. Still, the effort was made. But at leaat they they had Porsches and ran on a road course. It hadn't been NASCARed yet
@Doc_-_Savage_12 ай бұрын
And? It was always an AMERICAN series, I'm sure there were other "International" drivers who were invited, and said 'No thank you.'. Europeans have always been a bit stuck up about invitationals in America. Just like F1 doesn't care for American drivers, it's snobbery.
@BSNFabricating Жыл бұрын
IROC started out as a true International race of champions. Unfortunately by the mid to late 90s, it had become basically just another NASCAR series. And I'm afraid the SRX series is quickly following suit.
@drewwrobel564 Жыл бұрын
Honestly this is like saying Indy car and F1 are basically same cars, since they are both open wheels. the only thing common with IROC, NASCAR and SRX cars are rollcages and fenders.
