Tough season for the Mets as manager Yogi Berra starting his 3rd season and coming of a NL Championship plagued with injuries throughout the season and Mets never were in contention since day one. These are appreciated. Hoping for late 70s and early 80s Mets action when the team was way down but had a few noteworthy highlights here and there before they reemerged around 1984 with Gooden, Carter, Strawberry, Hernandez, etc.

A lost year in many respects. Tug McGraw developed shoulder problems and was traded to the Phillies after the season. It turned out to be a benign cyst and once it was removed, he recovered completely and continued to be a top reliever. This wasn't as bad as the Nolan Ryan-Jim Fregosi fiasco, as the Mets got catcher John Stearns in return. But McGraw was sorely missed during the prolonged bullpen drought of the late 70s. Tom Seaver struggled with a painful sciatic nerve in his hip as a result of overstriding to compensate for a tender shoulder. Before his last scheduled start, Seaver went to see a chiropractor, who realigned his pelvic structure. Problem solved.

I remembered watching this multiple times in 1975 on Channel 9 during rain delays. My Dad and I went to a Sunday afternoon game the Summer of 1974 against the Giants. Tom Seaver pitched and despite his nagging hip problems he pitched a gem and won 6-0. Teddy Martinez tripled with bases loaded in first inning to get them going. What made the day for me was Dave Kingman (still a Giant) signed the cover of my scorecard. He could not have been nicer as he patiently signed for everyone during BP.

Seaver went 5 with only 1K but Giants starter was Ron Bryant who didn’t get out of the first inning. Seaver won ‘73 Cy Young Award over Bryant.⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️

The game on May first in 1974 summed up how things would go. Seaver faced the Dodgers, 12 innings pitched, 16 K’s, no decision. Mets lost 2-1.😳⚾️😳⚾️😳⚾️

Not Horrific but they lost the trade. Tug was the best player in the trade. Still the Mets got John Stearns and Del Unser was good in 75.

Mets + 1974 + 'highlights' doesn't add up. Yogi was booed heavily at All Star Game due to not picking Pirates Manny Sanguillen. Phils were already in baby blues by '74-'75 Like Mays, Torre was on the down slope after years of Mets trying to acquire him. On 7/21/75 Torre ended 2 innings and killed potential rallies in 2 others - 4 GIDP's. Down the stretch there wasn't much 'pennant pressure', after winning 5 in a row by 8/29 they won consecutive games only once and a 6 game losing streak in early September to NL East opponents. Ugh! This was the beginning ('76 excepted) of the slide to oblivion in Payson era. Steinbrenner was already at work to bury Mets on the sports pages, MD Grant had no positive response. Shea was becoming a real 'dump due to NYC Parks Dept. cutbacks and crowded schedule there with Yanks, Jets & Giants in '74-'75. They did outdraw Yanks those 2 years by close to 500k each.

yes of course..you have to search through 1969 's World Series games (think game 3) for 'Look who's #1' and 1969 WS film in 1969 series games uploaded here on my channel..same thing for '73 'You Gotta Believe and WS fim on 1973 NLCS game and one of the Series games extras at end (there was no 1970 Mets film btw)

WOR used to show them during rain delays. Used to look forward to rain delays. Also my little league would show them before the little league dinner.
