There are some people who didn't or don't like Howard Cosell, but love him or hate him, Howard Cosell's knowledge was undeniable. Plus he always had access to some of the most iconic and most important athletes of our generation. Muhammad Ali, Joe Namath, and more. Plus this Monday Night Football broadcasting team is easily the most amazing broadcasting team Monday Night Football has ever seen. This used to be a CAN'T MISS football game. Each member had intelligence, football knowledge that was again undeniable, some really dry humor, but overall they KNEW the game of football. They avoided the ridiculous or the worst aspects of the game, focusing only on what they knew the fans wanted to hear about. The NFL Today Pre-game and Post-game shows were the same way. Yes they entertained us but they almost always stuck to the game of football or highlights of Baseball or other high profile sporting events. I used to really love watching these shows. My team, the Green Bay Packers, weren't the best team in the 70's. Honestly they had a stretch where they were flat out awful.....lol. That being the case I had early on developed an appreciation for football games, good football games and it didn't matter who was playing. I just enjoyed watching the games. Of course back then it was nothing like it is nowadays with 400+ channels, ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, etc., plus add all of the online options and sites, not to forget the actual NFL Network itself, there are well over 50+ different places, channels, sites to watch football. Back then we had 4 main networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, & PBS. Plus some places had multiple unaffiliated local channels. Not affiliated with ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. In the 70's we had one, WVTV Channel-18, & then later into the late 70's we got one more, WCGV CHANNEL-24. We also had 2 PBS stations 10 & 36. So watching games back then was simple. CBS had 1 or 2 games on Sunday, and NBC had 1 or 2, depending on who had the Double-header. Then on 🌚Monday🌚Nights🌚, ABC had 🌜🏈🌛Monday🌜🏉🌛Night🌜🏈🌛Football.🌜🏈🌛. Back then one network covered the NFC while the other network covered the AFC. If I remember correctly CBS had the NFC and NBC covered the AFC. The one certainty was this, the games were always professionally done, they were always fun to watch, the announcers knew their stuff, and the Pre-game show, the Half-Time shows, and the Post-game shows were also always well done, entertaining, and informative. Football was by far, so much better than the broadcasts they air nowadays. One more reason why I am so thankful for this channel, it's hard work, and dedication. Now multiple generations will be able to see some of the best players of the 70's and 80's, and that is a incredible gift! Thank you!

I've enhanced the 1975 Week 5 Giants at Bills Monday Night game. This recording had a lot of fuzziness and compression artifacts, plus it was very drab in color. I ran it through Topaz and it did its usual great job getting rid of all the crud and sharpening edges. The picture was also upscaled to 1080p. I used Resolve to bring back some pretty good color. You can see the before/after shots here -- imgbox.com/g/jbe8m7khdj

I would love to know the settings you use on Topaz for all of these NFL videos…I have a similar project where I am restoring old marching band videos using Topaz, but I don’t know the best settings to use…Dione DV, Dione TV, etc? Interlaced or progressive? De interlace 1x or 2x? It’s all so involved, but exciting at the same time
@davevolskysbackdoor56738 ай бұрын
Hi Lee - I always start with collector DVD images of games so that I'm working with the best possible first-generation source. I rip each disc's content to an MP4 file using Handbrake. I de-interlace the video in this first stage, set Constant Quality to 18, use H.265 encoding, framerate set to same as source and Constant, and use the Slow encoder preset speed. I then will run those rips through Topaz. I will set the picture to crop out any videotape noise along the bottom. I set my output resolution to Custom and set Resize Method to Prioritize Height, then type in 1080 for the Height value (it will adjust the width automatically) - you obviously only do this if you want to upscale your video. I leave Video Type as Progressive since I already de-interlaced it when I ripped the disc. And I always just use Proteus set to Auto, with Recover Detail set to 0. After the render is finished, I then bring THAT into Resolve and work on Contrast, Color, and editing. Hope that helps :)
@leedeloach28028 ай бұрын
Thanks Dave! I'm trying to figure out whether I should deinterlace first in handbrake, or use topaz to deinterlace and use their Dione models. Still a work in progress...thanks so much again@@davevolskysbackdoor5673
@davevolskysbackdoor56738 ай бұрын
@@leedeloach2802 You're welcome Lee :) I've never tried to deinterlace in Topaz. Have always done it in Handbrake and I've been just fine with the results. You can certainly run tests though on small samples between the two programs to see if you spot any differences.

The 75 Bills were a terrible disappointment. A league-best offense and a nearly league-worst defense. This game was the beginning of the end. After sneaking into the 1974 AFC Wildcard at 9-5, then starting 75 4-0, the wheels came off, they finished 8-6 with no playoffs. Then in 76, Simpson held out for all of preseason, Wandering Lou Saban wandered away five games into the season, and then it was straight into the cellar for the next few years.

I'll say this much, even as a Cowboys fan. OJ Simpson had a God-given ability to slice through defenses like they were nothing; he was truly gifted at the running back position, and I respect him for that. It's such a shame that, now and forever, his life and legacy will be forever marred by a certain event that took place in 1994 and its aftermath.

@davevolskysbackdoor567329 күн бұрын
I seriously doubt it as the Betamax first came on the scene in November 1975 and this game was played a month before. No, this is most likely a transfer from some sort of network master videotape, the quality of which though wasn't the best.
@worldsgreatestride29 күн бұрын
@@davevolskysbackdoor5673 I knew it was not VHS because it was not out yet. And I did not know the month Beta came out in ‘75 but I knew it was ‘75 when it came out. And it’s not Cartrivision because I can’t see the skip field effect. So must be what you said from a network machine.
