I love these old motorhomes! It's a shame that owners don't do their maintenance as required. I was considering buying one of these rigs but didn't care for the box handling. I ended up buying a 1973 23ft GMC.

We have a 77 dodge Champion motorhome with some type of foam looking ceiling inside. Some places are pretty rough but we don't know what the material is made from and I don't want to start taking it off without knowing. Have you ever seen that type of ceiling material in any of the older RV's and know what the material is? Lordy, I hope our reno does not have to be this extensive either! I applaud you for having this kind of patience with these older RV's!
@shelburnerv2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what they used in the roof on yours. Probably just a foam board ceiling. Best of luck they are quit a job. Thanks for watching.

Great vid and right on time as I am starting the roof replacement on 76 chieftain. One question on the black tape used to cover the edges and the seams, it almost looks like Gorilla Brand duct tape... Is that in fact what it is? can you tell me the name if not? and what type of roof glue did you use? Thanks, Ronnie Poole
@shelburnerv Жыл бұрын
That was Gorilla tape. Thanks for watching.

Great project. A lot of work. But why don't you treat the wood so it doesn't rotten out.
@shelburnerv2 жыл бұрын
We did spray a lot of it with mold spray but a lot of the wood in the coach will eventually be replaced. Thanks for watching!!

Is the turn bar the same as a trim with the gutter ? and if so , did you use butyl tape when you installed it ? and is it one piece or 92" sections . Great job well done to you and the crew .
@shelburnerv2 жыл бұрын
We call it turn bar but yes trim with gutter would be the same. Yes we did put butyl tape behind the rail before installing. The longest turn bar available to us only comes in 16' pieces, so we did have to us multiple rail. Thanks for watching!

what is supporting the roof ? are the walls studs ? 1x2 ,2x2 ? a metal frame ? I don"t see it

The wall assembly.

Amazing work!! What is the approx cost of your materials?! I’d like to DIY a roof just like you did, but on a Brave. Very exciting to watch this process and know that it can be done!😊

I bought a 75 Indian d23 recently. Was curious how much that roof replacement would cost?
@shelburnerv2 жыл бұрын
We added up all the parts and labor for this job and as you saw it was VERY involved! Saying that this roof replacement would be in the 15k range. Thanks for watching!
@dtony19642 жыл бұрын
Have you ever thought about prefabbing that metal rooftop?
@shelburnerv2 жыл бұрын
I did consider that. Nobody in the industry today is using metal for roofs anymore. I probably could have gotten some metal to replace it but putting down plywood on the roof made it a lot more stable when you get up there to service items on the roof with out wrinkling the roof up. As you can see in the video metal and insulation was all they put up there from the factory. We were able to add a lot more structure the way we did it.
