#DRIVINGHOME - 1972 Winnebago Indian - Ep 6
Free rarely means easy. This 1972 Winnebago Indian D22 ended up being a pretty nice slice of work.
We pretty much went though every piece. From complete brake overhaul, interior renovation and even rolling on a new paint job!
This Dodge chassis is not the most desirable unless you are in for a full restoration. The M400 in this year has tremendously scarce brake and suspension parts. Some of the parts are even completely obsolete. Thank the RV Gods for Geoff of Alretta Truck Parts! If you need parts of any kind..not just RV..he is incredible and thorough!
The interior was solid but on the surface pretty beat up. We painted and put new laminate floors down. What a huge difference a new coat of paint and a serious clean can make!
Speaking of new coats of paint...we also hit the exterior with the old Rustoleum roll on paint job using foam rollers and cutting the paint with 50% paint thinner. It's hard to go wrong with white and black paint.
We ended up doing well enough on the sale to cover the work we put in but, wow, it was one we should have passed on. This one was a huge learning lesson and we'll go a bit deeper into our struggles in a future episode of "Story Time" ;)
Til next time..TOUR HARD, TourLifers!
