1976 Alfetta GT - 6 Minute Drive

A 6 minute segment of various photos and video clips I edited of a 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT. This car spent all its life in upstate, NY and was delivered in LeMans Blue paint with US graphics kit and a black interior. It's equipped with Alfa Romeo's aluminum 2.0L DOHC 4cylinder engine mated to a rear mounted 5-speed transaxle. It's a fun and lively driver without any mods or upgrades. The factory spring rates are a bit soft, but Alfa blended the engine's power band, the easily modulated clutch and gearing, and the balance of the car's weigh and steering so well, that you can drive it through almost any set of road conditions without touching the brakes.

Thanks for the drive down memory lane. I owned a 1.? liter Alfetta GT back in the early eighties, although I'm not sure of the exact year that mine was manufactured. It was one of my most fun cars to drive. Unfortunately, it pretty much fell apart.

Thank you for the comment.. Glad you had fun while it lasted! ... I think the US could get 1.8 and 2.0liter engines, while Europeans could get them with 1.6 too.. wonderfully fun machines. Cheers!

It's June 14th in up state New York with snow on the ground and no leaves on the trees ! What happened to global warming ? LOL Thank you for showing us this Alfa . The ignition system in my 1971 Berlina was bad, if left over night in the rain, would fail to start the next day. This Alfa is in real good shape for spending it's whole life in New York .

These cars are a pure joy. Once you've driven an alfa you're hooked forever. I just picked up a 1979 2.0L Alfetta in super condition, body-wise, but I'm having carb issues, dual Dellortos, so I don't have it on the road yet. Enjoy!

:-) Yes! It is very fun to drive, and the sound of the Busso V6 is tremendous! I was lucky to find one with no rust! But the 2nd gear synchro needs repair, so I must be gentle when shifting until I can fix it.

Thank you commenting. That's a huge compliment to the Alfetta GT, CBoy! I ended up selling her with very mixed feelings to an Alfisti who I know will provide "a good home" in Massachusetts. Our garage is now graced by an '82 GTV6 Balocco SE - just as sweet as this Alfetta was. Cheers!

The motor isn't 2 liters - if it is still the original. This car is without doubt a 1,8GT - the forrunner of the 2l GTV - which was introduced in 1976. The 1,8 was produced from 1974 to 1976.

Thanks A.F.APint - I'll work on double declutching (the synchro's are already a bit worn betw 1st & 2nd). It was never modified: Original owner was a local housewife, the next owner stored it with his 20-car collection but hardly drove it for 10 years. Third owner is me. It's a he** of a fun car to drive.

Yes the stripes and bumpers are American. Also you need to double de clutch as the syncros will wear rather rapidly particularly in down shifts. A really nice original example. My regards.

Thanks Grant, it was a pleasure to drive while I had it. The 2nd gear synchro was good, too. I left the suspension and the US bumper height in original condition. It is now owned by an Alfisti in Massachusetts. I "replaced" this with another lovely Alfa: A '82 GTV6 Balocco SE.
