Amazing. A lot more to that car than I thought possible.

Isn't that true? There are a million little parts, but when you take it one bite at a time it's pretty simple.

That was really interesting. I never knew that the taillights were adjustable. I have owned 2 74s.

Thanks for posting this. I recently replaced some light bulbs on my '76 Coupe de Ville and found out that there are about 75 different ajustments you can make to improve the uniformity of the gaps. It took about 3 hours to adjust everything but the result is beautiful :)

What a great video I just stumbled upon it. I have had a few Cadillacs from the 70s. I had a 76 talisman and 2 78 triple white Biarritzs' want to find a Seville Elegante with a moonroof and or a Coupe DeVille with a moonroof Cadillac called it an astro roof

The window sticker on my 77 Eldo Biarritz shows the Astroroof as a 2777 dollar option on an 11.8K dollar car. FWIW. - They also offered a solid sliding roof.

Hey there again, Another good one. I know I sound like a broken record but you always release these videos "after" I have done the job. Well, here is what I can add. My car already had them replaced. The previous owner did not do an excellent job with the fitment. I did my ruff fit and tightened down the very top bolt to ensure the "crown" at the very top was even on both sides. Then I took my heat gun and very carefully heated the plastic so it was playable. then I went one bolt at a time working my way down to make sure the edges met perfectly. I also did the same thing on the other side. After I was happy with the fitment, I went back over it with the heat gun and let it cool. Now when I remove the extension I know that it will hold the form. After you paint them you can take some of that red body puddy and run a string of it so when you reinstall that puddy will ooze out and then just run your finger along the seam and it will look perfect. The last step is to take some touch-up paint and some clear coat. It does not matter what type. Mix about 5-10% of the paint to the clear coat and mix, with a pinstriping brush paint in the valley. You will not be disappointed in the results of the extra steps. Mine for instance looks far better than it did when it left the factory. I hope this helps.

Thanks for watching. Those are great ideas, I hope others can learn from your experience. As for releasing videos right after you do the job, that’s because your neighbors spy on you and send us tips, so be careful what you do in public. 🤣🤣

fits perfect - only about 1cm panel gap - like it was new :) American cars...

The bean counters must have come up with these. GM cars and even Cadillacs had really gone downhill by this point. Damn shame. The cars only ten years earlier were very well built.

Im too OCD for that. It would've taken me a week just to body work them and panel bond them to the bracket after they were fit perfect. I know it wasn't perfect from the factory. But if im going through all this. It's gonna as close to perfect as possible. Don't take this as a dig at your work. Looks great. And most people don't take the time to do it at all. Im just insane when it comes to details like this. I don't own a classic car, but I love learning how to fix things in different ways. And hopefully I'll be able to afford a classic car soon. So I'm a new subscriber

You might try something like acrylic werks on the tail light lenses - it does a good job of pulling all the fading off the plastic, without having to sand / buff / polish. What a fiddly job. It came out looking great!
@westofthelakecadillacclub Жыл бұрын
Oooh, what a great idea, and easy too because the bezels come right off with the four screws and go right back on after polishing the lenses. Thanks!
@compu85 Жыл бұрын
@@westofthelakecadillacclub I've used AW on a number of lenses - both tail, headlight, and turn signals. It works well, but you have to "re-buff" them every few months if the car lives outside. Still - beats trying to do a traditional polish on something that's a complex shape!

awesome video thanks. can you tell me where you got that universal trim and what type it is? I have to do this same thing on my 76 coupe. Thanks!
@westofthelakecadillacclub Жыл бұрын
Thank you, the universal trim came with the parts. I bought the tail lamp bezels from OPGI, but the ABS fillers came from eBay because OPGI had supply chain issues. That universal trim is a chrome colored U Shape door edge guard available at most auto parts stores or Amazon.

I saw some on ebay and there is a guy named George in Florida that has a cadillac parts business. I found him when looking for AM FM 8 Track Cb Radio set up or something like that. My car came with fiberglass panels in the trunk to be installed.

@@DanTheManIOM George in Florida is a great guy. If he can’t find what you need, it’s probably not available. If you get George on the phone, LISTEN to him and you will learn more about Cadillacs and life than a master’s degree will teach you.

Why did GM design such junk (bumper fillers) for beautiful luxury cars? Manufacturers love affair with plastic body parts (and vinyl tops) is complete BS!!
