Just driving around south Florida and catching some local sights and sound of the new Classic Chambered Exhaust vette pack side pipe mufflers. Too many cops around to do much in the way of fun.

Good to hear from you and I remember when you started working on your car. Man, it came out awesome and sounds incredible. Enjoy it, you've done a great job!

Andrew, the engine is the original to the car but I replaced the cylinder heads, camshaft, intake manifold, carb and ignition. The cam gives it the different sound along with the exhaust. The two gauges are for fuel pressure and vacuum. As far as buying a classic car and you should look for I would recommend going on some of the forums and reading as much as you. Plenty of guys hit the corvette forum before they buy looking for information just like you are, it's a great resource. Good luck

The hood is a high rise cowl from Ecklers. I'd say it's 4-5" but I've never measured it. The gauge on the right is engine vacuum. Idle is 5-7" in gear and 9-10 in park at 900-1000 rpm

Oh wow I didn't even notice the engine changing all that really makes it a lot meaner but thanks for the reply, the car is a beauty and thanks for the advice.

Gear ratio is normally chosen based on the engine rpm where the power band is most effective along with the camshaft. I would like to put 3:55 gears in since anymore than that will be tough on highway driving which I do a fair amount of. An overdrive gear and 3:73's would probably work great.

Hope you still have this car. Thanks for the ride

You're welcome and I do still have it. It goes for a ride most every Saturday to our favorite lunch spots weather permitting

Mine used to have a fair amount of engine shaking but some more fine tuning and these bigger tube side pipes greatly reduced it to almost none. The thumpr cam needs a lot of initial timing 18-22 degrees so you might want to try that then adjust your carb settings, mainly richen the fuel mixture then read the spark plugs to see how they look.

I have a 77 that I am trying to get painted this summer. I already did enough motor work. It's not a show car or an Xtreme hot rod but it does sound like the black beauty in this video.

I see you live in Boynton Beach I do too. I'm at Gateway and Congress and have a similar 1976 Corvette Torch red with chrome side pipes too. always fun to just drive around and have people wave.

It lined up pretty good but I did find the front center area sat lower than the front panel between the headlights with the corners of the hood being even with the fenders so to fix it you'd have to fill in the lower area and block it down to get it even. I didn't bother due to the expense and time required. It's not too noticeable unless your looking for it.

sounds good. i wish mine was as smooth as yours, like the shaking.

Can you tell me if you have the stock motor in it? L82 or L48? I have an 80 with the L48 manual trans and have not measured my inserts, but would like to get the sound you have. Thanks
@ShadowVette76Ай бұрын
It is the original L48 short block but the heads, cam, intake, carb, exhaust and ignition are aftermarket. If you have Hooker, Dougs, Obx or similar style side pipes they should all have a 4" insert. Factory sidepipes were smaller and connected directly to the cast iron manifolds with exterior covers over the pipes that didn't use an insert. You should be able to get an idea based on the outside diameter of the tubes however if you're trying to figure out the flow path diameter you might try a telescopic mirror and flashlight or taking them out would be the only other way.

Is that your oil and water gauge? what did you bolt them on?
@ShadowVette768 жыл бұрын
+Rimoun Estifou Fuel Pressure, Vacuum and Water temp is there now. I installed a cover available at most all of the corvette vendors that goes over the ugly wiper motor and control arms. With this cover I was able to bolt the gauge pods in place so the hood opens normally and the gauges stay in place.

So I thinking about getting a 76 and im completely dumb founded at the sight/sound of yours and had a few questions like: what kind of engine is in yours because that can't be stock, what where the two gages under the good for, did you have to get parts custom made since the car is a classic, and would you have any recommendations as to things that are nice on the car. This will be my first classic and just looking for pointers thanks
@Faith0929ROK11 жыл бұрын
Sorry for asking too many questions. Did you have issues with the L88 hood not lining up correctly?
@Faith0929ROK11 жыл бұрын
Also, is that a 4" L88 hood or 5"? How's your vacuum at idle btw? ever since the cam install on mine, at 750rpm, I'm only pulling about 10inch vacuum.
@ScottHBrown9 жыл бұрын
Do you have mechanical or vacuum secondaries? If you have vacuum, does it run out of vacuum at high rpm and force your secondaries closed?
@milano617 жыл бұрын
Well Scott, vacuum will pull the secondary butterflies open even harder at high vacuum (zero pressure). Atmospheric pressure at sea level (Florida) is 14.70 pounds per square inch.

Been looking for a good thumper cam sound on the road video. Is it the small, medium or large version?
@ShadowVette765 жыл бұрын
It's the small flat tappet. Regular thumpr cam not the mutha or big mutha
@HiddenCreekHomestead2 жыл бұрын
@@ShadowVette76 do you have any braking issues with that cam?
@ShadowVette762 жыл бұрын
@@HiddenCreekHomestead They worked but I wasn't comfortable with the stock booster so I replaced it with a hydra boost instead and its much better eliminating the need for vacuum. I used a vacuum pump for awhile which worked great but even with side pipes the pump noise got old really quick so I removed it and I think its still under my work bench somewhere

For real? I'm thinking about swapping mine from 4.10 to 3.08 too. Do you experience any sputtering in low rpm with the 3.08 gears? Too many people telling me go with 3.55 cause of it. I have close to 500TQ in my vette and don't think performance will be an issue.. what do you think?
