If Toyota should ever build a new Celica, they should use the first gen as a heavy inspiration.
@AAPGoku6 жыл бұрын
jsupra I know it will be the Japanese version of the Celica Mustang. And I wish they had the Celica Liftback on Need For Speed this car will be amazing for it.
@Mrjohnnymoo15 жыл бұрын
@@AAPGoku It has just dawned on me.... They missed the opportunity when they rereleased the 86 to brand it as the Celica. Small high revving engine making respectable power, but not great, which is focused on just being a great driving car.
@akishot67354 жыл бұрын
@@Mrjohnnymoo1 Yeah its a lot closer to a first or second gen Celica than a AE86. But for many thye think of 7th gen Celicas and those don't match with the car's image

Headers and High performance Cam. painted Silver with wide Black racing stripes and Western style Wheels. it must of had 400K miles when I sold it. I couldn't keep it anymore. but it was bought by a person who worked at a classic card dealership for his kid. They were going to continue to fix it up . it Still passed state Emissions for a non catalyst car barely.

Beautiful! My first ever car was a '74 Celica ST Fastback, next up was a '77 ST Liftback and my third was a '78 GT Liftback. Performance wasn't outstanding but loved the look of them. If you met another one on the road in the UK back in the early 80's you would flash your headlights because they were rare even then. Nice to know that there's at least one still on the road back home.

I had this exact year and model in a 5-speed when I was in high school in the mid 80s. Rust was an issue, but not much else was. The car was super reliable, relatively quick, fun to drive, and it looked good. As I remember it didn't sound as nice as the video here, but it was a great car. Mine had 110K miles on it when I bought it used, but it ran for years before a drunk driver t-boned me and destroyed the car.

I had one which was also my first Toyota, but when it got to the 200k mark, I got nervous and sold it to a friend. He drove it until it got to 500k, before he got bored with it. If I could have figured how to sort out the suspension to where it handled, I would have kept it. Throw thousands at it, but still no BMW. I fix my Toyota Jones now through a Tacoma, which will last forever.

Surprisingly easy to find parts for these, with the exception of parts for the 18rgu. The transmissions and axles were off a Hi-Lux, and many of the other components were similar, especially if you have one in the U.S. I've dailied a '77 for two years now.

Love the car Benny. I have to admit I would have had no idea what kind of car it is from looking at it from the side or front. I would have recognized it as Japanese and "Datsun-like" but I'd know it wasn't a Datsun. Looking at little things in the interior and exterior I see a lot of similarities with my '76 Datsun. It sounds quite the same as well. Being that it's a Toyota I bet you only have to fix something once and then it's good for a long, long time. I've been a fan of Toyota for a long time for their super-reliability as my daily drivers. They're the ultimate utilitarian vehicle, but having a Toyota that's cool too? That's a really nice combination.
@Keep-It-Wheel8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the lovely comment! You would be right with the reliability side of it. Since I've had it over a year and a half now not one single thing has gone wrong! Touch wood! Hope your Datsun treats you in a similar fashion.
@fifteenbyfive8 жыл бұрын
It really does. It has had a lot of gremlins and has been a long journey but done right once is done for good, as a rule in my experience. For whatever criticism of your car there might be, I think the response "yeah but it's a Toyota" would sufficiently rebut anything. ;)
