1976 UNC Charlotte vs San Francisco

This is the 3/13/1976 UNC Charlotte vs San Francisco game. NIT QF. This game featured one of the best matchups of Big Men in college basketball. Problem was not many fans followed these programs outside of their specific areas. Bill Cartwright was a 7'1" center for The Dons. He elicited, either fairly or unfairly, comparisons with Bill Russell who had led The Dons to a National Championship in the 50's. Cartwright was a great player but his expectations might have even been greater. He had the misfortune here of facing future Celtic star Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell. Maxwell was a unorthodox 6'9" player who at times liked to dibble the ball upcourt. The game was interesting for sure. Maxwell's crew came out on top but it took OT. This game was played at MSG.I claim no rights.

Next year UNCC lost to Marquette in finish for the Ages in NCAA Semifinal
