Can't believe Taylor followed through with the carburetor conversion. 😮 When I was 19 I did the same thing to my 76 Beetle.

So, if I play the video backwards it's a guide on how to FI your bug? All joking aside, it's another bug running and back on the road which is all that really matters. Regarding crappy aftermarket distributors. On my last two T1 engine builds I used T25 1.9 WBX dissy's fitted with a T1 vac can rather than a Petronix replacement. The ignitor amplifiers are very reliable and readily available being shared across the VAG range. You have to run a little more advance for smooth acceleration as the mechanical curve is presumably different. The other issue is finding an early 1.9 wiring loom or a later one to cut up, but I ended up making my own loom for the last install.

Really great work, I just purchased a 75 beetle and the previous owner convert to carb and he keep the distributor the dual. And I’m looking to change it. And what your suggestion. And I got a Carb 34 PICT-3. And also they didn’t not connect the cut-off-valve. Thank you

That carb going to freeze up with that FI muffler, it needs heat riser tubes.
@vgmutah11 ай бұрын
Either replace the whole exhaust system during the conversion so the engine has heat risers, or add one of the 12 volt flexible ceramic heater wraps off eBay under the carb. This works.
@ApertureAppliedScience7 ай бұрын
Maybe if it got under 0 degrees like in Germany where this car was designed. Never seen a carb get too cold and “freeze” they may not run as efficiently tho without the heat pipes.
@ERICWHITESIDENOGARGE7 ай бұрын
@ApertureAppliedScience the outside temperature doesn't matter. Your intake can freeze up on a 95-degree summer day. That is why the Gremans added heat riser tubes to prevent the carb and the intake from getting too cold. They knew exactly what they were doing.
@ApertureAppliedScience7 ай бұрын
Now her next traditional “beetle mechanic” will want to rip off that new tangled fuel pump and will charge her for a mechanical fuel pump because “it’s not right for the car at all.” At this rate you’ll have her be so far backwards she’s ride a horse and buggy everywhere 😂

Is there anything you used to regulate the new electric fuel pump or does it not need it? I am converting my 1977 EFI beetle to carbs because the parts are not being produced and used parts or expensive and not reliable.
@wickedwerks11 ай бұрын
Nope, the derale pump I used is rated for 1-3.5psi which is fine on the stock carb.
@vintage76vipergreenBeetle Жыл бұрын
Hopefully the car will be only used on nice warm weather days. Since it doesn't have the correct muffler and the pre-heat tubing hook up. Dual carburetors would have been my recommendation.
@ERICWHITESIDENOGARGE Жыл бұрын
Well actually, that carb can freeze up on a 95 degree day. The air up by the carb can get very cold, it doesn't matter the outside temperature. I was going say the same thing, it need a different exhaust with heat riser tubes.
@vintage76vipergreenBeetle Жыл бұрын
@@ERICWHITESIDENOGARGE You're correct. Going with dual carburetors, would have been better and cheaper in the long run. Fixing the original FI system would have been my first choice.

I agree with you Taylor. I don't want any state-of-the-art, computerized gadgets in my VWs either! They run fine with NOS mechanical parts!
@ApertureAppliedScience7 ай бұрын
Thats a big stretch to call the D-Tronic system computerized. It’s mechanical in every aspect. That’s like calling your electric starter motor a state of the art a computerized gadget. The EFI is controlled by relays and does not have a computer just like your starter- and I don’t see people complaining about its complexity.

the Holley Sniper kit is better than the 75-79 fuel injection if you use the carburetor manifold with the Sniper kit. the Mexican Beetle fuel injection is better too.

@@wickedwerks Daily drivers, or parked up and fuel system drained and treated? Alcohol is in everything these days or will be soon if you are in a lucky area. Sooner or later it has made all of my carb vehicles into museum pieces. They absolutely rip, but without drain and treat or daily driving they are a certified PITA. Building a DIY system can be much cheaper than 4K. Could do dual (8) injectors for less than half that, probably 4 injectors for around 1K. I love my carbs too, but the pump gas situation makes them a lot less practical.
