Steve Kemp , Ben Oglive , Jason Thompson and Rusty Staub all had power. John Hiller and Mickey Stanley were on this 1977 team. They both were members of the 1968 Tigers. Stanley and Hiller first topps baseball cards were in the 1966 set. I was 17 years young in 1977. I remember ordering a complete 1977 topps baseball set in the mail. I wish I still had it. It was so sharp , centered and in gem mint condition. Bill Singer was an above average pitcher for Dodgers, Angels. Singer played for these Bluejays. Thanks again.

Only the second game ever for Tigers in Toronto! Bob McCown, was the Blue Jays 1st PA announcer and Bob is a well known Toronto media personality 45 years later.

Folks might remember that before the Blue Jays came along, Southern Ontario was mostly Tiger country. What a great rivalry in the '80s pennant races. I rented a small apartment in those days right next to Maple Leaf Gardens and the loudest street noise - the loudest by far - was whenever the Red Wings came to town. MLB and NHL seem to have pretty much killed the rivalry. I do not know why.

Well, a big part of what makes a rivalry great is when the two teams are at least good, and the Tigers were awful for quite a while, then when they got good again around 2006, Toronto wasn't. And it's kind of been the same with the Maple Leafs and Red Wings. But to your point, the Tigers and Jay's definitely should have been kept in the same division.

“Called out for excessive window shopping!” … Harwell in the top 5 announcers of all time. Nobody is close today …

Not today, or any day in my meager opinion. Vin Sculley is the only one that compares in terms of longevity and classic likability, but even he doesn't really come close. He had that sing-song tonality to his delivery that was off-putting, and had that go-to habit of reciting anecdotes or stats that seemed to be irrelevant all too often. Ernie's good-natured kindness, and the great relationship he and Paul had comes through, even in the broadcasts.

Ben Ogilvie became a prominent power bat for the Brew Crew, who lost the 82 WS to Cardinals. The PA for 1 year at Exhibition Stadium was Bob McCoun, now a Pod Caster and a prominent sports radio personality through the 90's into the late late 20 10's.

Detroit Tigers traded Willie Horton to Texas for pitcher Steve Foucault. YES I REMEMBER HIM!
@johnboehmer66837 ай бұрын
Such a shame it can't be said that Horton was a lifetime Tiger. He had his Tigers batting helmet painted over in his new team's (Texas) colors, but left a small part unpainted, Tigers black.He was a Tiger through and through. Do you know if he's still alive?
