Man what an awesome car this is. I fell in love with the Hornet after seeing 007 take one from the showroom floor and later do his famous barrel roll when they jumped a canal in 1974's James Bond flick, *The Man with the Golden Gun*. Although not the AMX version, it was a regular Hornet with the V8 option. AMC had some stinker automobiles over the years but the Hornet wasn't one of them and was one hell of an automobile :)

OMG can't believe the condition of this car! It may be the best example (the only remaining?) of it's type in existence. These cars were as competitive as any smogged out mid-late 70's pig irons of the day... Including the Ford 302/Chrysler 318/GM 305. The 304 in a light compact would move this chassis along quite nicely including very decent handling. I owned a factory ordered '76 Hornet X with a similar drivetrain/Chassis set-up. It would absolutely run with and often outrun anything contemporary coming out Detroit at the time and looked good doing it. Great car - great fun. I hope the AMX in this video finds a proper owner. Long live AMC!

Would be even cooler with a 4-speed I agree, but the V8s only came with an automatic from the factory. If I had tons of money and owned this car (I wish!!) I don't think I'd bother changing the stock transmission either. The Chrysler TorqueFlite is one of the better automatics from this era and the 304 makes a very happy combination with it, especially in a car this light.
@mpetersen62 жыл бұрын
I had one of these. The 304 was a dog. But pretty much everything was a dog then. They'd look a lot better without the trim piece over the roof.

Change the gearing in the rear end you'll have yourself a rocket put a posi in it
@74SD455TA3 жыл бұрын
Easier said than done, parts of the CORRECT variety are probably not available, only after market stuff where the rear end will make noise, just the way it is and because of that, it needs to be left alone.

What are you talking about an AMX, and AMX Hornet? They only made one AMX and it was the Hornet. The AMX name died with the Javelin in '74, it was brought back in '77 for the last year of the Hornet to compete with the other decal muscle cars of the time like the Mustang ll Cobra ll, Volare Road Runner, Aspen R/T, etc.

The first AMX was a 1968 2 seater..and it was NOT a Hornet...
@Bigdog302V86 жыл бұрын
In the case of this 1977 Hornet ,it is a optional AMX trim line name for this car. The Real AMX was only made from 1968 to 1970 and was a High Performance 2 seater. AMX stands for American Motors Experimental. sadly this name became only a trim package later.
@killermachine68595 жыл бұрын
actually it is a Hornet/AMX, not AMX Hornet. the same with Javelin/AMX. it is not that confusing when worded correctly, for example, the never was an AMX Javelin.

Very nice looking car. Why they called it AMX, is beyond me. Back then, auto makers gave cars names that didn’t fit them at all
